An Numaniyah Airfield (ICAO, ORAN) is a former airfield and military training center in An Numaniyah, Wasit Governorate, Iraq. History During the Iran–Iraq War in the 1980s, An Numaniyah Air Base was used to attack Iran and pro-Iranian villages in Southern Iraq. In the 1990s, garrisoned troops and stationed helicopters located in the air base were claimed to participate in an environmental warfare with the Marsh Arabs by draining wetlands. An Numaniyah
An-Nu'mānīyah () is a city on the Tigris river in Iraq, located roughly southeast of Baghdad in the Wasit Province. It is the site of one of four national training centers for the Iraqi Army. It is also the site of a base that was built by the Hussein regime and constructed by Yugoslavian contractors Mostogradnja. Following the beginning of the Iraq War, it changed its purpose September 1, 2004 to operate as a training base for new recruits and serve as the home station for three battalions of the Iraqi Intervention Force – the Iraqi army's counterinsurgency wing. History An-Nu'maniyah is named after al-Nu'man III ibn al-Mundhir who ruled the region. The city hosts the tomb of Al-Mutanabbi. Nu'maniyah was an important town during the Middle Ages. 1st Marine Expeditionary Brigade (1st MEB) was a formation most recently assigned to I Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF). First established as 1st Brigade (1901-1914), the brigade has also been activated as 1st Marine Brigade (1947-1949), 1st Provisional Marine Brigade (1950), 1st Provisional Marine Air-Ground Task Force (1953-1956), 1st Marine Brigade (1956-1985), 1st Marine Amphibious Brigade (1985-1988), and 1st Marine Expeditionary Brigade (1988-1994, 1999-2017). The 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing (2nd MAW) is the major East Coast of the United States, east coast aviation unit of the United States Marine Corps and is headquartered in Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina.
