Vatroslav Mimica
Vatroslav Mimica (25 June 1923 – 15 February 2020) was a Croatian film director and screenwriter. Early life Born in Omiš, Mimica had enrolled at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine before the outbreak of World War II. In 1942 he joined Young Communist League of Yugoslavia (SKOJ) and in 1943 he went on to join the Yugoslav Partisans, becoming a member of their medical units. Career After the war Mimica wrote literary and film reviews, and his career in filmmaking began in 1950 when he became the director of the Jadran Film production studio. Animation He had his directorial and screenwriting debut in the 1952 Yugoslav film ''In the Storm'' ( Croatian: ''U oluji'') which starred Veljko Bulajić, Mia Oremović and Antun Nalis. The Miroslav Krleža Institute of Lexicography ( hr, Leksikografski zavod Miroslav Krleža or LZMK) is Croatia's national lexicographical institution. Jadran Film is a film production studio and distribution company founded in 1946 in Zagreb, Croatia. In the period between the early 1960s and late 1980s Jadran Film was one of the biggest and most notable film studios in Central Europe, with some 145 international and around 120 Yugoslav productions filmed at the studio during those three decades, including two Oscar-winning films and Orson Welles' 1962 screen adaptation of Franz Kafka's novel ''The Trial''. Frano Vodopivec (4 July 1924 – 13 March 1998) was a Croatian cinematographer. Background Vodopivec first began working with film and photography in high school and during World War II he worked at ''Hrvatski slikopis'', the state-sponsored film company which produced propaganda shorts for the short-lived fascist regime of the Independent State of Croatia. After the war he worked on newsreels, before joining Jadran Film production company, for whom he shot his first short feature in 1947 and his first feature film in 1952 (''U oluji'', directed by Vatroslav Mimica).
