Amsterdam Weesperpoort Station
Weesperpoort (Dutch language, Dutch: ''Weesperpoortstation'') was a Train station, railway station in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. It opened in 1843 as the terminus station in Amsterdam of Amsterdam–Arnhem railway, the railway line to Utrecht and Arnhem. Over the years, the station was expanded as new services started, including international trains and a tram to the Gooi. Weesperpoort was no longer the terminus in Amsterdam from 1889 onwards; trains coming into the station would reverse and continue to the newly built Amsterdam Centraal station. The station was closed in 1939 after it became obsolete with the opening of the Amsterdam Amstel station, Amstel station nearby, with its demolition taking place soon after. Amsterdam–Arnhem Railway
The Amsterdam–Arnhem railway, also referred to as the Amsterdam–Elten railway or ''Rhijnspoorweg'' in Dutch (English: Rhine railway), is an important railway that connects Amsterdam in the Netherlands with Utrecht and Arnhem, and continues into Germany. History The railway was opened in several stages by the Nederlandsche Rhijnspoorweg-Maatschappij (NRS) between 18 December 1843 and 15 February 1856, with construction starting in 1843. The line was electrified in 1938 between Amsterdam and Arnhem and in 1966 between Arnhem and Elten. The line has been heavily reconstructed to increase its capacity between Amsterdam Bijmer Arena and Utrecht Centraal; this began in 1999 and finished in 2008.
