Amsterdam IX was an Electoral districts of the Netherlands, electoral district of the House of Representatives (Netherlands), House of Representatives in the Netherlands from 1897 to 1918. Profile The electoral district of Amsterdam IX was created in 1897, when the district of Amsterdam (electoral district), Amsterdam, like all other remaining multi-seats districts, was split into single-member districts. The territory of Amsterdam IX roughly corresponded with the neighbourhoods of Amsterdam Oud-West, Oud-West, Frederik Hendrikbuurt and Staatsliedenbuurt (Amsterdam), Staatsliedenbuurt, all located in the current borough of Amsterdam-West. Due to Amsterdam's rapid urban expansion into the district's boundaries, its electorate grew rapidly, from just 5,215 in 1897 to 27,317 in 1917, making it the largest electorate of any district at that time. The Netherlands has had electoral districts since 1814. From 1814, the districts matched the provinces and the members of the House of Representatives were elected indirectly via the provincial councils. After the Constitutional Reform of 1848, members of the House of Representatives were elected directly in a two-round system. 38 electoral districts () were created, with sometimes multiple members per district who were elected in staggered elections. The number of districts increased over time, with 100 in 1896 when multi-member districts were abolished.
