Amphinectidae
Desidae is a family of spiders, some of which are known as intertidal spiders. The family is named for the genus '' Desis'', members of which inhabit the intertidal zone. The family has been reevaluated in recent years and now includes inland genera and species as well, such as '' Badumna'' and '' Phryganoporus''. In 2017, the family Amphinectidae was merged into Desidae and the family Toxopidae was separated from it. Those intertidal spiders that are truly marine commonly live in barnacle shells, which they seal up with silk; this allows them to maintain an air bubble during high tide. They emerge at night to feed on various small arthropods that live in the intertidal zone. Distribution As now circumscribed, the family Desidae is mainly found in South America and Australasia, with some species reaching north to Malaysia. '' Metaltella simoni'' has been introduced in a large part of the Southern United States (records exist from California, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida). ... Metaltella Simoni
''Metaltella simoni'' is a species of spider, Indigenous (ecology), native to South America (Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina), and introduced into the United States and Canada. image:M. simoni male left palp.jpg, Left palp of male, ventral view Description Females are about 8 to 9 mm long, males about 7 to 8.5 mm long. Both sexes are brown, with some darker parts, such as of the front of the carapace (the upper surface of the cephalothorax), the ends of the legs and the chelicerae. Males have an orange-yellow area towards the back of the carapace, darkening to brown at the front. The lateral eyes of both sexes are larger than the median eyes. Taxonomy ''Metaltella simoni'' was first described as ''Amaurobius simoni'' by Eugen von Keyserling in 1878. It was transferred to the genus ''Metaltella'' by Pekka T. Lehtinen in 1967. Genera
Genus (; : genera ) is a taxonomic rank above species and below family as used in the biological classification of living and fossil organisms as well as viruses. In binomial nomenclature, the genus name forms the first part of the binomial species name for each species within the genus. :E.g. '' Panthera leo'' (lion) and '' Panthera onca'' (jaguar) are two species within the genus '' Panthera''. ''Panthera'' is a genus within the family Felidae. The composition of a genus is determined by taxonomists. The standards for genus classification are not strictly codified, so different authorities often produce different classifications for genera. There are some general practices used, however, including the idea that a newly defined genus should fulfill these three criteria to be descriptively useful: # monophyly – all descendants of an ancestral taxon are grouped together (i.e. phylogenetic analysis should clearly demonstrate both monophyly and validity as a separate lineag ... Louisiana
Louisiana ( ; ; ) is a state in the Deep South and South Central regions of the United States. It borders Texas to the west, Arkansas to the north, and Mississippi to the east. Of the 50 U.S. states, it ranks 31st in area and 25th in population, with roughly 4.6 million residents. Reflecting its French heritage, Louisiana is the only U.S. state with political subdivisions termed parishes, which are equivalent to counties, making it one of only two U.S. states not subdivided into counties (the other being Alaska and its boroughs). Baton Rouge is the state's capital, and New Orleans, a French Louisiana region, is its most populous city with a population of about 363,000 people. Louisiana has a coastline with the Gulf of Mexico to the south; a large part of its eastern boundary is demarcated by the Mississippi River. Much of Louisiana's lands were formed from sediment washed down the Mississippi River, leaving enormous deltas and vast areas of coastal marsh a ... World Spider Catalog
The World Spider Catalog (WSC) is an online searchable database concerned with spider taxonomy. It aims to list all accepted families, genera and species, as well as provide access to the related taxonomic literature. The WSC began as a series of web pages in 2000, created by Norman I. Platnick of the American Museum of Natural History. After his retirement in 2014, the Natural History Museum of Bern took over, converting the catalog to a relational database A relational database (RDB) is a database based on the relational model of data, as proposed by E.
