Amparo (name)
Amparo is a Portuguese and Spanish word that means refuge or shelter (and in a broader sense, protection). Several places in the Iberian Peninsula and in Latin America are named Amparo, some associated with Our Lady of the Refuge (Portiiirdr dr.: '' Nossa Senhora do Amparo'', Esp: '' Nuestra Señora del Amparo''). Portuguese ( or, in full, ) is a western Romance language of the Indo-European language family, originating in the Iberian Peninsula of Europe. Amparo Cuevas
Luz Amparo Cuevas Arteseros (13 March 1931 - 17 August 2012) was a Spanish Roman Catholic seer. She claimed that the Virgin of the Sorrows appeared to her in Prado Nuevo estate in the Madrilenian municipality of El Escorial on 14 June 1981. Following these statements arose a religious movement that has mobilized thousands of people who go to the place of Marian apparitions. She was called "El Escorial seer" referring to the village where Amparo claimed to have seen the apparitions. These apparitions have not yet been recognized by the Catholic Church and have created controversy that has reached the courts. All that after 1981 came around these events has been described by some people as «business and destructive sect». Amparo Muñoz Quesada (Vélez-Málaga, 21 June 1954 – Málaga, 27 February 2011) was a Spanish actress, model and beauty queen who won the Miss Universe 1974 competition in Manila, Philippines, being the first and only Spaniard titleholder in this line of pageants. Muñoz surrendered both the title and crown after six months due to refusal to follow organizational regulations. During that time, no successor was willing nor assigned to officially take her vacated placement. Amparo Llanos Fayos (born 27 May 1965) is a Spanish musician, guitarist and songwriter. She was the leader, along with her sister Cristina, of the Spanish rock band Dover. Biography Before the foundation of the band, she worked in the shop of her mother in Majadahonda. She took a course in history and three of Journalism, but according to her, "I left it because I was too timid". Her influences are The Beatles, R.E.M and Nirvana. Amparo "Weena" Lim (born 9 September 1969) is a Filipino badminton player who competed in the women's singles at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Amparo Iturbi Báguena (12 March 1898 – 22 April 1969) was a Spanish pianist. Early career Amparo Iturbi Báguena was born in Valencia, Spain, one of four children of Ricardo Iturbi (a piano tuner) and Teresa (Baguena) Iturbi. The younger sister of José Iturbi, she gave her debut concert at age 15 in Barcelona. In 1925, she gave her first important concert outside Spain. She played in Paris, at the Salle Gaveau. Amparo Illana (1934–2001) was a Spanish noble woman who was the wife of Adolfo Suárez, prime minister of Spain between 1976 and 1981. Biography Illana was born in Madrid on 25 May 1934 into a family of Basque origin. Her father was a colonel at the army. She studied English in Ireland and French at a boarding school in France.
