The Amite County School District (ACSD) is a public school district based in Liberty, Mississippi (USA). The district's boundaries parallel those of Amite County. In addition to Liberty, the district includes Gloster and the Amite County portions of Centreville and Crosby. Liberty, Mississippi
Liberty is a town in Amite County, Mississippi. It is part of the McComb, Mississippi McComb micropolitan area, micropolitan statistical area. It is the county seat of Amite County. The town can be accessed via Interstate 55 in Mississippi, I-55, then west on Mississippi Highway 24. McGehee Air Park is located about a mile west of town. Liberty celebrates its Heritage Days Festival during the first weekend of each May. Air Cruisers manufacturing plant is located in Liberty. Owned by Zodiac Aerospace, the plant produces evacuation slides, life rafts, and life vests for the aviation industry. Amite County is a county located in the state of Mississippi on its southern border with Louisiana. As of the 2020 census, the population was 12,720. Its county seat is Liberty. The county is named after the Amite River, which runs through the county. Amite County is part of the McComb, MS micropolitan statistical area. History Amite County was established in February 1809 from the eastern portion of Wilkinson County. It was named after the Amite River. French explorers had named the latter for the friendly (''amitié'' in French) indigenous Houma people they encountered in the region. Gloster, Mississippi
Gloster is a town in central Amite County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 897 at the 2020 census. History Gloster was incorporated on March 11, 1884. It was largely founded as a railroad town. Gloster was named after the engineer who put the Yazoo and Mississippi Valley R.R. through in the 1880s. Drax Biomass operates a per year wood pellet production facility in Gloster. The facility was expected to create 45 jobs, and is called Amite BioEnergy. Economic revival Governor Tate Reeves of Mississippi came down to Gloster to announce Claw Forestry Services will build a $200 million sawmill on about 50 acres comprising the former Georgia-Pacific mill site and the adjoining former elementary school property. Centreville, Mississippi
Centreville is a town in Amite and Wilkinson counties, Mississippi, United States. It is part of the McComb, Mississippi micropolitan statistical area. Its population was 1,258 in 2020. Bethany Presbyterian Church is a historic church in Centreville, built in 1855, and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. The town was incorporated in 1880, and it was a small settlement in the years prior. In 1880, the Yazoo and Mississippi Valley R.R. ran along the border between Wilkinson and Amite counties. Because the station was approximately midway between Liberty and Woodville and about midway between Natchez and Baton Rouge, it was appropriately named Centreville. Crosby, Mississippi
Crosby is a town in Amite and Wilkinson counties, Mississippi, United States. It is part of the McComb, Mississippi micropolitan statistical area. Its population was 242 at the 2020 census. History Crosby was originally named Dayton in 1884, as a tribute to landowner David Day, who provided a right-of-way for the Yazoo and Mississippi Valley Railroad (Y&MV). In 1900, the population of Dayton was 30. By 1916, the Foster Creek Lumber Company had acquired around of timberland in Wilkinson and Amite Counties, which included Dayton. At that time, two Stephenson brothers from Michigan were building several sawmills in south Mississippi and purchased the Foster Creek Lumber Company landholdings.
