Amit Kumar Chakma (1984-2023) was an Indian politician and the former Chief Executive Member of the Chakma Autonomous District Council, an autonomous region in Mizoram from 6 November 2017 to 21 March 2018. Chakma was first elected as an MDC in 2013 from Rengkashya constituency on an INC ticket. He was again re-elected in 2018 from same constituency. The Chakma Autonomous District Council is an autonomous council under the Republic of India. It is located in the Northeast Indian state of Mizoram, of which it covers about 3.25% area of the state. It is a landlocked region sharing international borders with Myanmar to the south and Bangladesh to the west, domestic border with Lai Autonomous District Council to the east and Lunglei district to the North. At the 2011 Census, the population was 62,094.Its headquarters is at Kamalanagar. The Mizo National Front ( MNF) is a regional political party in Mizoram, India. MNF emerged from the Mizo National Famine Front, which was formed by Pu Laldenga to protest against the inaction of the Government of India towards the famine situation in the Mizo people, Mizo areas of the Assam state in 1959. It staged a March 1966 Mizo National Front uprising, major uprising in 1966, followed by years of underground activities. Chakma People
The Chakma or Changhma people (, 𑄌𑄇𑄴𑄟), are an ethnic group and nation native to the Indian subcontinent and Western Myanmar. They are the largest indigenous group and as well as the second largest ethnic group of the Chittagong Hill Tracts region of southeastern Bangladesh. They also form the majority in Chakma Autonomous District Council of Mizoram. Significant Chakma populations are found in the northeast Indian states of Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Assam and Rakhine State of Myanmar.
