Amis Folk Center
The Amis Folk Center () is a cultural center in Chenggong Township, Taitung County, Taiwan about Amis people. History The center was opened in November 1995. Architecture The center has an area of around 2 hectares in size. The main building of family and festival houses are based on the hand drawings of Guangfu Township in Hualien County from 1943 by a Japanese ethnologist. The buildings are the imitation of Shaman's house in Taibalang community in Hualien County. The center has an outdoor performance square and an outlook that can hold 2,000 people at one time. Transportation The center is accessible by bus from Hualien Station or Taitung Station of Taiwan Railways. Chenggong, Taitung
Chenggong Township or Chengkung Township() is an urban township in Taitung County, Taiwan. It is a coastal town facing the Pacific Ocean. Chenggong Fish Harbor is just west of downtown. History Chenggong was originally an Amis settlement from which came the Hokkien name Moalaulau (). During Japanese rule, it was renamed to of Taitō Prefecture. After 1945, to avoid confusion with Singang Township of Chiayi County and to distinguish it from Tainan's Sinckan (now called Sinshih), it was changed to Chenggong, which commemorates the eponymous general Koxinga (Cheng Ch'eng-kung) who expelled the Dutch from Taiwan. Amis People
The Amis ( ami, Amis, Ami, Pangcah; ), also known as the Pangcah, are an indigenous Austronesian ethnic group native to Taiwan. They speak the Amis language (; ), an Austronesian language, and are one of the sixteen officially recognized Taiwanese indigenous peoples. The traditional territory of the Amis includes the long, narrow valley between the Central Mountains and the Coastal Mountains ( Huadong Valley), the Pacific coastal plain eastern to the Coastal Mountains and the Hengchun Peninsula. In 2014, the Amis numbered 200,604. This was approximately 37.1% of Taiwan's total indigenous population, making them the largest indigenous group. The Amis are primarily fishermen due to their coastal location. Guangfu Township () is a rural township located in mid Huatung Valley between Central Mountain Range and coastal Range of Hualien County, Taiwan. Taitung Railway Station
Taitung () is a railway station of Taiwan Railways Administration. It lies at the junction of the Hualien-Taitung line and the South-link line in Taitung City, Taitung County, Taiwan. History During the construction work of the back part of Taitung Station in 1980, a historic settlement area was discovered when graveyard containing several thousand slate coffins was unearthed, with some bodies still laid within. Around 20,000 pieces of jade, pottery and stone tools were also found.
