Amfibian is an American musical project led by Phish lyricist Tom Marshall. History Future members of the band appeared on Marshall's 2000 solo album '' Amfibian Tales'', after which Marshall (on vocals and keyboards) officially formed Amfibian as a proper band. The group initially included guitarists Scott Metzger and Andrew Southern, bassist Matt Kohut (formerly toured with Ween), and drummers Pete Cottone and JP Wasicko. The group played a series of concerts in 2001, including a benefit for murdered Phish fan Kristin Laurite at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey. The show, hosted by Kevin Cassels of '' The Pharmer's Almanac'', was to be released as a live album, but Marshall temporarily retired Amfibian at the end of the year. ''Amfibian Tales'' is an album by Phish lyricist Tom Marshall, who also handles lead vocals and keyboards on the album. Officially billed under "Tom Marshall and Co.," the disc includes a number of special guests, including Matt Kohut (formerly of Ween), Scott Metzger, old friend Pete Cottone (who played drums on "Slave to the Traffic Light" on Phish's debut album in 1986), and New Jersey duo The Sarahs, who sing lead vocals on "Nothing," a track written by Marshall and Trey Anastasio that eventually found its way onto Phish's eleventh studio album, '' Undermind''. Benjamin Clapp (born October 13, 1977) is an American musician from Boise, Idaho. He has performed, composed, and recorded music with numerous artists, most notably Erik Sanko (The Lounge Lizards) and Skeleton Key, Tom Marshall (Phish) and Amfibian, Anthony Krizan (Spin Doctors), Jim Breuer, Kronos Quartet, Jesse Blaze Snider and Baptized By Fire, Dee Snider (Twisted Sister), Billy Martin (Medeski Martin and Wood), David Peel ( The Lower East Side), and White Trash. Early life and education At the age of eleven, Clapp began studying trombone in Idaho public schools. Tom Marshall is an American lyricist, keyboardist and singer-songwriter best known for his association with Trey Anastasio and the rock band Phish. He has been the primary external lyricist for Phish during their career (1983–2004, 2009–present), with songwriting credits for more than 95 originals. In addition to his songwriting work, Marshall also fronts the rock band Amfibian and hosts the Phish podcast ''Under the Scales''. Marshall is the co-founder of Osiris, a podcast network in partnership with Jambase. Personal life Marshall attended Princeton Day School in New Jersey with Anastasio. Ween is an American rock band from New Hope, Pennsylvania, formed in 1984 by Aaron Freeman and Mickey Melchiondo, better known by their respective stage names, Gene and Dean Ween. Bivouac Jaun is a project recorded in the Autumn of 1983 featuring Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio, Phish lyricist Tom Marshall, and one-time Phish percussionist Marc Daubert. It also features appearances from Dave Abrahams, drummer Pete Cottone, and guitarist Roger Holloway. Anastasio plays a variety of instruments on the album, with "Run Like an Antelope," and "Letter to Jimmy Page" featuring Anastasio on all instruments. Scott Metzger (born October 12, 1977) is an American guitarist. His work touches on many styles including psychedelic rock, soul, country, jazz, and surf rock.
