Amery Of Pavy
Amery of Pavy (also Aimeric, Aimery, Aymer, or Emeric in various sources; Italian language, Italian: Amerigo) or of Pavia (died 1352) was a 14th-century English knight, originally from Pavia in Lombardy, who was made captain of Calais by King Edward III of England in 1347. He made a secret deal with Sir Geoffroi de Charny, Geoffrey de Charny, a French knight, to sell Calais for 20,000 écus (approximately £ in terms). After discovering the plot, Edward summoned Amery to London and confronted him, ordering him to keep his bargain with Geoffrey and say nothing of the king's knowledge. As Geoffrey gathered an army to take control of the town in December of that year, Edward brought an army from England to counter the French. Richard Amery
Richard Sanderson Amery (born 31 March 1951) is an Australian former politician. He was a Labor Party member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1983 to 2015, representing the electorates of Riverstone (1983–1991) and Mount Druitt (1991–2015). Early career Prior to entering politics, Amery spent several years in the retail industry before becoming a police officer with New South Wales Police, where he served for 13 years. At the time he resigned to take up his political work he was a senior constable. Parliamentary career Amery was the Minister for Agriculture from 1995 to 1997, when he was allocated additional responsibilities as Minister for Land and Water Conservation. On the continent of Antarctica, the Aramis Range is the third range south in the Prince Charles Mountains, situated 11 miles southeast of the Porthos Range and extending for about 30 miles in a southwest–northeast direction. It was first visited in January 1957 by Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions (ANARE) southern party led by W.G. Bewsher, who named it for a character in Alexandre Dumas' novel The Three Musketeers, the most popular book read on the southern journey. Amery Ice Shelf
The Amery Ice Shelf () is a broad ice shelf in Antarctica at the head of Prydz Bay between the Lars Christensen Coast and Ingrid Christensen Coast. It is part of Mac. Robertson Land. The name "Cape Amery" was applied to a coastal angle mapped on 11 February 1931 by the British Australian New Zealand Antarctic Research Expedition (BANZARE) under Douglas Mawson. He named it for William Bankes Amery, a civil servant who represented the United Kingdom government in Australia (1925–28). The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names interpreted this feature to be a portion of an ice shelf and, in 1947, applied the name Amery to the whole shelf. In 2001 two holes were drilled through the ice shelf by scientists from the Australian Antarctic Division and specially designed seabed sampling and photographic equipment was lowered to the underlying seabed. Amery Municipal Airport is a city owned public use airport located two nautical miles (4 km) south of the central business district of Amery, a city in Polk County, Wisconsin, United States. It is included in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2025–2029, in which it is categorized as a local general aviation facility. The airport was damaged by high winds in September 2005. Six planes were damaged and five hangars were destroyed. William Bankes Amery CBE (26 October 1883 – 26 November 1951) was a British civil servant and accountant, also known as W. Bankes Amery and W. Bankes-Amery. The Amery Ice Shelf in Antarctica was named after him by Douglas Mawson. Life The eldest son of Thomas Arthur Amery, of Norwell, Newark, Nottinghamshire, Amery was educated at Christ's Hospital. Making a career in the civil service, he was an Assistant Secretary in the War Trade Department from 1916 to 1919, then an Establishment Officer at the Ministry of Transport until 1922. That year, he became a Finance Officer in the Overseas Settlement Department of the Dominions Office, and in 1925 was appointed as Representative of the British government in Australia under the Empire Settlement Act 1922, that is, as a key official of the Home Children child migration scheme. Robert Maxwell Amery (born 1954) is an Australian linguist and specialist in Australian Aboriginal languages, in particular language revitalisation of endangered languages, and focused primarily on the Kaurna language of the Adelaide Plains region of South Australia. Mohammed Amery (né Amiri; September 20, 1954 – October 19, 2023) was a Canadian politician who was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. He represented the constituency of Calgary-East as a Progressive Conservative. Early life Amery was born Mohammed Amiri (he changed his name sometime between 1989 and 1993) in Lebanon on September 20, 1954, and came to Canada in 1974.
