Ameritech Cup Chicago
The Chicago Grand Prix is a defunct professional tennis tournament played on indoor carpet courts. It was part of the Grand Prix circuit. It was held annually at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois, USA from 1985 to 1987. It is unrelated to a World Championship Tennis event held in Chicago for one year in 1982. The singles tournament saw four American players reach the final in the three years of the tournament: Tim Mayotte won the title in 1987 against countryman David Pate, John McEnroe beat compatriot Jimmy Connors in 1985. Francisco González (tennis)
Francisco González (born November 19, 1955) played professional tennis in the 1970s and 1980s. He represented Paraguay in Davis Cup and played collegiate tennis at the Ohio State University. González was ranked as high as world no. 34 in singles, achieved in July 1978, and no. 22 in doubles in November 1984. The biggest singles final of his career was at Cincinnati in 1980, defeating Jimmy Connors in the semifinals before falling to Harold Solomon. Career highlights Francisco González has been the head tennis professional at Sierra Sport & Racquet Club since 1998. Eddie Edwards (tennis)
Eddie Edwards (born 3 July 1956) is a retired professional tour tennis player. The right-handed Edwards was a tour regular from the mid-1970s to the end of 1987. He played in singles a total of 112 grand prix (including World Championship Tennis events) and 24 grand slam tournaments. His best results were on grass, reaching the fourth round of Wimbledon in 1986 and winning the Adelaide grand prix event in 1985. He reached his career-high singles ranking of world No. 42 in July 1986. Tennis career Edwards's career singles record for grand prix and grand slam events was 87 wins and 135 defeats. Mike De Palmer
Mike De Palmer (October 17, 1961 – August 7, 2021) was a professional tennis player from the United States. De Palmer enjoyed most of his tennis success while playing doubles. During his career, he won six tour doubles titles and finished runner-up an additional six times. He achieved a career-high doubles ranking of world No. 20 in 1986. DePalmer had a career high singles ranking of 35, with wins over Jimmy Connors, Vitas Gerulaitis, Mel Purcell, Peter Fleming, Peter Lundgren, Paul McNamee, Jakob Hlasek, and Tim Gullikson. He reached the singles final in Ancona, Italy, in 1982, losing to Anders Järryd 6-3, 6-2. De Palmer coached Boris Becker from August 1995 to June 1999, as well as coaching other professional tennis players. Christo Van Rensburg
Christo van Rensburg (born 23 October 1962) is a former professional tennis player from South Africa. Van Rensburg turned professional in 1983. He won his first doubles title on ATP Tour later that year at Cleveland. Van Rensburg won 20 top-level doubles titles during his career, including one Grand Slam men's doubles title at the Australian Open in 1985, partnering Paul Annacone. He also won two ATP singles titles at Orlando in 1987, and at Johannesburg in 1989. Van Rensburg's career-high rankings were world No. 19 in singles (achieved in 1988) and world No. 5 in doubles (achieved in 1987). He retired from the professional tour in 1995. Paul Annacone (born March 20, 1963) is an American former touring professional tennis player and current tennis coach. He is the former coach of 20-time Grand Slam winner Roger Federer, 14-time Grand Slam winner Pete Sampras, and 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens.
