Americas Rugby League Championship
The Americas Rugby League Championship is an international rugby league football tournament contested by Americas national rugby league teams. The tournament was created to follow the success of the Americas region of the 2015 Americas qualification tournament for the 2017 Rugby League World Cup. The tournament is both a stand alone competition and a qualification tournament for the Rugby League World Cup depending on the year. History Background Previously, the only regular international competitions in North America were the Colonial Cup between the USA and Canada and the Caribbean Carnival Cup between Jamaica and Canada. The European Rugby League (ERL) (previously Rugby League European Federation (RLEF)) is the umbrella body for nations playing the sport of rugby league football across Europe. In the absence of other continental federations, ERL also controls rugby league in North America the Middle East and Africa through its sub-branches Americas Rugby League and Middle East-Africa Rugby League. Brazil Women's National Rugby League Team
The Brazil women's national rugby league team represent Brazil in international rugby league football competitions. They were announced to play in the 2021 Women's Rugby League World Cup in July 2019. Former Super League player Matt Gardner, of Brazilian descent, was announced as head coach in November 2019. However, due to Covid restrictions and personal circumstance, Gardner was unable to fulfil his duties as head coach and was replaced by Paul Grundy in November 2020. 2020 Americas Rugby League Championship
The 2020 Americas Rugby League Championship was a planned rugby league tournament scheduled to be held in Kingston, Jamaica in November 2020. This tournament would have been the 4th Americas Rugby League Championship. On 12 June 2020 it was announced that the tournament was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was provisionally rescheduled for May 2021 to be played alongside the America 9s (Rugby league nines) competition hosted by the USA. Due to the change of venue the Jamaica Rugby League Association was offered first option on hosting the 2022 Americas Championship. In April 2021 it was announced that the championship was abandoned with the 2022 tournament being the next playing. 2018 Americas Rugby League Championship
The 2018 Americas Rugby League Championship was held in Jacksonville, Florida, in November 2018. This tournament was the 3rd Americas Rugby League Championship and the 1st in which a South American national team participated. The tournament also acted as part of the 2021 Men's Rugby League World Cup qualifying. The winning team directly qualified for the 2021 Rugby League World Cup, while the runner-up will progress to the intercontinental repechage in 2019. The USA Rugby League (formally the US Association of Rugby League, Inc.) is the national governing body for rugby league in the United States. The organization is responsible for running the domestic club competitions and the United States national rugby league team in addition to other responsibilities. 2026 Women's Rugby League World Cup Qualification
The 2026 Women's Rugby League World Cup qualification was announced on 15 December 2023. It will feature four confederation qualification tournaments for each of the four International Rugby League confederations (Americas, Asia-Pacific, Europe, and Middle East-Africa). Colonial Cup (rugby League)
The Colonial Cup is an international rugby league football challenge match played between the United States Tomahawks and the Canada Wolverines. The inaugural match was played in September 2010 at the Richardson Memorial Stadium at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. The USA Tomahawks won 22–16. In 2011 the Colonial Cup was expanded to a 'home and away' series. Each team won their home fixture. The U.S. won the first game 18–2 with Canada securing their first win in the second match with an 18–16 victory. The U.S. won the series by an aggregate score of 34–20.
