American Public Television (APT) is an American nonprofit organization and syndicator of programming for public television stations in the United States. It distributes public television programs nationwide for PBS member stations and independent educational stations, as well as the Create and World television networks. History Eastern Educational Network APT was founded in 1960 when it was incorporated as the Eastern Educational Network (EEN). At first, EEN was a regional cooperative that began to exchange programs between a few of its member stations. EEN was one of the first distributors of shows such as ''The French Chef'' (with Julia Child) in 1962, ''Mister Rogers' Neighborhood'', and ''Washington Week in Review'' on a national basis. Alabama Public Television (APT) is a state network of PBS member television stations serving the U.S. state of Alabama. It is operated by the Alabama Educational Television Commission (AETC), an agency of the Government of Alabama, Alabama state government which holds the broadcast license, licenses for all of the PBS member stations licensed in the state. ''Simply Ming'' is a television cooking show hosted by chef Ming Tsai that is produced by WGBH Boston and Ming East-West, LLC. The show is distributed by American Public Television. Overview The initial premise of the show consisted of Ming presenting a master recipe, which he would use in all of the dishes prepared during the episode. Occasionally, Ming would go on location to spotlight a particular component used in or related to that episode's recipes. ''The Joy of Painting'' is an American half-hour instructional television show. Created and hosted by painter Bob Ross, it ran from January 11, 1983, to May 17, 1994. In most episodes, Ross taught techniques for landscape oil painting, completing a painting in each session. Occasionally, episodes featured a guest artist who would demonstrate a different painting technique. The digital television transition in the United States was the switchover from Analog TV, analog to exclusively Digital television, digital broadcasting of terrestrial television programming. It was originally set for December 31, 2006, but was delayed several times due to multiple government acts being enforced on broadcasting companies. Full-power analog broadcasting ceased in most of the country on June 12, 2009, however various aspects of analog television were continued up until 2022. History The initial plans for the transition in 2006 were stipulated by the Telecommunications Act of 1996. ''Nightly Business Report'' was an American business news magazine television program that aired on public television stations from January 22, 1979 to December 27, 2019, for most of that time syndicated by American Public Television. Internationally the show was seen on CNBC Europe and CNBC Asia. From January 22, 1979 to March 1, 2013, the show was produced at WPBT in Miami, Florida. In February 2013, CNBC purchased the program and closed its Miami operations.
