American Numismatic Association
The American Numismatic Association (ANA) is an organization founded in 1891 by George Francis Heath. Located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, it was formed to advance the knowledge of numismatics (the study of coins) along educational, historical, and scientific lines, as well as to enhance interest in the hobby. The ANA has more than 24,000 individual members who receive many benefits, such as discounts, access to website features, and the monthly journal '' The Numismatist''. The ANA's Colorado Springs headquarters houses its administrative offices, library, and money museum. The ANA received a federal charter from the United States Congress in 1912. A board of governors is in charge of the ANA. Numerous advisory committees help to operate it properly. The ANA has a Young Numismatists program intended to promote interest among youth. Clifford Leslie Mishler (born August 11, 1939) is an American author and numismatist. He has served as president of the American Numismatic Association. Early life Mishler was born in Vandalia, Michigan and attended Northwestern University. Career Mishler was hired by Krause Publications in 1963 as an associate editor for '' Numismatic News'' before being promoted to full editor from 1964 to 1966. He became the publisher for all numismatic publications from 1966 to 1975, publisher for all publications from 1975 to 1988, and was named executive vice president from 1975 to 1988, senior vice president from 1988 to 1990. He was appointed president of Krause Publications effective January 1, 1991. Along with Chester L. Krause, Mishler created the "Krause-Mishler" numbering system used in the ''Standard Catalog of World Coins''. Barry Stuppler
Barry Stuppler (born December 23, 1944) is an American coin dealer and former President of the American Numismatic Association (ANA). In 2003, he served on the California State Quarter Commission that created the California State Quarter. Career Stuppler has been a coin dealer for over 50 years; he is the founder of Barry Stuppler and Co. Inc. and its subsidiary, Mint State Gold. He has appeared on or in news programs and publications such as Fox Business Network and CNBC. In 1989, Stuppler made a bid to purchase the Berlin Wall. He bid $50 million and stated that he had planned to sell the pieces. At the time, he was also the President of the Gold and Silver Financial Group. Kenneth Bressett
Kenneth Edward Bressett (born October 5, 1928) is an American numismatist. He has actively promoted the study and hobby of numismatics for over 75 years. His published works on the subject cover a wide range of topics and extend from short articles to standard reference books on such diverse areas as ancient coins, paper money, British coins and United States coins. Career Early Career (1937-1955) Throughout his career he has worked as an author, editor and publisher of books and products for coin collectors. Bressett first became interested in coins in 1937 when his neighbor gave him a coin each from China and Belgium. He began collecting coins in earnest while he was a clerk in a grocery store in 1943 and through high school. Bressett attended Dresser Business School in 1947 and later studied graphic arts at the University of Wisconsin.
