Ambuthirtha
Ambuthirtha is a culturally significant mountain located approximately 15 km (9 miles) from the village of Thirthahalli, in the Shimoga District of Karnataka, India. It is the source of the Sharavathi river, a vital lifeline of the region. History Etymology and legend The name "Ambuthirtha" is derived from Hindu mythology, referring to Rama's bow, also called Ambu. The mountain is also the site of Rama temple. According to legend, Rama shot an arrow into the ground because his wife, Sita, was thirsty. When his arrow hit the ground, water poured out and quenched her thirst. Because the river originated with this event, the river is called "Sharavathi" as ''Shara'' translates to an arrow. A Shivalinga marks the origin of the river at Ambuthirtha. Thirthahalli is a panchayat town located in the Shimoga district of the state of Karnataka, India. It lies on the bank of the river Tunga River, Tunga and is also the headquarters of the Thirthahalli Taluk of Shimoga district. Geography Thirthahalli is located at . Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (2October 186930January 1948) was an Indian lawyer, anti-colonial nationalism, anti-colonial nationalist, and political ethics, political ethicist who employed nonviolent resistance to lead the successful Indian independence movement, campaign for India's independence from British Raj, British rule. Kuvempu
Kuppalli Venkatappa Puttappa (29 December 1904 – 11 November 1994), popularly known by his pen name Kuvempu, was an Indian poet, playwright, novelist and critic. He is widely regarded as the greatest Kannada poet of the 20th century. He was the first Kannada writer to receive the Jnanpith Award. Kuvempu studied at Mysuru University in the 1920s, taught there for nearly three decades and served as its vice-chancellor from 1956 to 1960. He initiated education in Kannada as the language medium. For his contributions to Kannada literature, the Government of Karnataka decorated him with the honorific ''Rashtrakavi'' ("National Poet") in 1964 and Karnataka Ratna ("The Gem of Karnataka") in 1992. Tunga Bridge
Tunga Bridge in Thirthahalli, Karnataka, India, is one of the oldest bridges across the Tunga River. This bridge is over 75 years old and it was designed by, and built under supervision of, Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya. The bridge connects the area Kuruvalli with Thirthahalli. Tunga Bridge is also called Jayachamarajendra Bridge. The Tunga Bridge draws many visitors, especially on weekends to see the uniqueness of the bridge. Bridge structure This bridge has an arc-like structure at the top which is supported by consecutive pillars on either side of the bridge. There are beam-like structures on the top, connecting the two arcs, appearing as a roof. This unique bridge resembles the Sydney Harbour Bridge but with a slight difference.
