Ambrolauris Raioni
The Ambrolauri Municipality ( ka, ამბროლაურის მუნიციპალიტეტი, tr) is a self-governing subdivision in western Georgia. Its governing bodies are based in the city of Ambrolauri. Together with the neighboring municipalities Lentekhi, Oni, and Tsageri, the Ambrolauri Municipality forms the region of Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti. The municipality has an area of is 1142 km2, and population of 10,405 (2021). Geography Ambrolauri is situated in the southern slope of the Greater Caucasus and borders various subranges of the Caucasus. Its southern geographical boundary is the Racha Range while its northern limit is the Lechkhumi Range, where its highest mountain peaks are located. Rioni River
The Rioni ( ka, რიონი ; , ) is the main river of western Georgia. It originates in the Caucasus Mountains, in the region of Racha and flows west to the Black Sea, entering it north of the city of Poti (near ancient Phasis). Uravi ( ka, ურავი) is a village in western Georgia in Ambrolauri District of the Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti region. Abari
__NOTOC__ Abari ( ka, აბარი) is a village in Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti region, Georgia. It is part of the Likheti commune, Ambrolauri municipality, with the population of 122, mostly (99.2%) ethnic Georgians, as of the 2014 census. Abari is located on the right bank of the Lukhuni river, a right tributary of the Rioni, on the southern foothills of the Lechkhumi Range, 17 km. northeast of the town of Ambrolauri. The population of Abari is dominated by two surnames: Lobzhanidze and Japaridze. According to local tradition, the village was founded by a man surnamed Lobzhanidze from the Ghebi in the northernmost part of Racha in the 18th century. Abanoeti ( ka, აბანოეთი), formerly also known as Mikartsminda (მიქარწმინდა), is a village in Georgia’s northern Ambrolauri Municipality (Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti region) with a population 102 (2014). It is located about west of the municipal center Ambrolauri, at an elevation of above sea level on a hill overlooking the Rioni River. It is part of the Bugeuli administrative community (თემი, temi) that includes 5 more nearby villages. Mikartsminda Monastery The historic name of Abanoeti is Mikartsminda (Georgian: ka, მიქარწმინდა), named after a 10th-century monastery that stood once here. Kharistvala
Kharistvala ( ka, ხარისთვალა) is a so called daba (urban-type settlement) in Georgia’s northern Ambrolauri Municipality (Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti region), at an elevation of above sea level on the western shore of Shaori Reservoir. It is located about south of the municipal center Ambrolauri, and north of the high Nakerala Pass. Remarkably, the settlement has no permanent population (2021), while still registered as a daba. Kharistvala is administratively part of the Nikortsminda community (თემი, temi) which also consists of villages Kachaeti and Nikortsminda, known for the Nikortsminda Cathedral. Kutaisi Governorate
The Kutaisi or Kutais Governorate was a province ('' guberniya'') of the Caucasus Viceroyalty of the Russian Empire. It roughly corresponded to most of western Georgia throughout most of its existence, and most of the Artvin Province (except the Hopa and Yusufeli districts) of Turkey between 1878 and 1903. Raion
A raion (also spelt rayon) is a type of administrative unit of several post-Soviet states. The term is used for both a type of subnational entity and a division of a city. The word is from the French (meaning 'honeycomb, department'), and is commonly translated as ' district' in English.
