Amblève (river)
The Amblève (French language, French, ) or Amel (German language, German, ) is a long river in eastern Belgium in the province of Liège (province), Liège. It is a right tributary of the river Ourthe. It rises near Büllingen in the High Fens or ''Hoge Venen'' (Dutch language, Dutch), ''Hohes Venn'' (German language, German), and ''Hautes Fagnes'' (French language, French), close to the border with Germany. Tributaries of the Amblève are the rivers Chefna, Ninglinspo, Warche, Eau Rouge, Salm River (Belgium), Salm and Lienne. The Amblève flows through the towns of Amel, Stavelot, Trois-Ponts, Remouchamps, and Aywaille. The Amblève joins the river Ourthe in Comblain-au-Pont. Sites At the village of Coo (near Trois-Ponts) is the Coo Waterfall, which at tall is not the highest but one of the better known waterfalls in Belgium. Trois-Ponts (; ; both literally "Three Bridges") is a municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Liège, Belgium. On January 1, 2006, Trois-Ponts had a total population of 2,445. Nonceveux () is a village of Wallonia in the municipality of Aywaille, district of Sougné-Remouchamps, located in the province of Liège, Belgium. Geography The village is situated inside a meander of the Amblève. Nonceveux is located on the left bank, six kilometres south-east and upstream of Sougné-Remouchamps. Coo-Trois-Ponts Hydroelectric Power Station
The Coo-Trois-Ponts Hydroelectric Power Station is a pumped-storage hydroelectric power station located in Trois-Ponts, Province of Liege, Belgium. Located next to the Amblève River, one of the few sites where 250+ meter local elevation can be found in Belgium. The power station uses its water to support a power scheme where water is pumped from a lower reservoir to one of two upper reservoirs known as Coo I and Coo II. When energy demand is high, water can be released from these reservoirs for power generation. The water then returns to the lower reservoir and the process repeats as needed. The same machines that pump the water to the upper reservoirs at a higher elevation are also used as generators. The plant was commissioned in two stages, Coo I (1969) and Coo II (1978). It is owned by Engie-Electrabel and has an installed capacity of 1,164 MW.
