Betacyanin
Betalains are a class of red and yellow tyrosine-derived pigments found in plants of the order Caryophyllales, where they replace anthocyanin pigments. Betalains also occur in some higher order fungi. They are most often noticeable in the petals of flowers, but may color the fruits, leaves, stems, and roots of plants that contain them. They include pigments such as those found in beets. Description The name "betalain" comes from the Latin name of the common beet (''Beta vulgaris''), from which betalains were first extracted. The deep red color of beets, bougainvillea, amaranth, and many cacti results from the presence of betalain pigments. The particular shades of red to purple are distinctive and unlike that of anthocyanin pigments found in most plants. There are two categories of betalains: * Betacyanins include the reddish to violet betalain pigments. Among the betacyanins present in plants include betanin, isobetanin, probetanin, and neobetanin. * Betaxanthins are those be ... Amaranth (color)
Amaranth is a reddish- rose color that is a representation of the color of the flower of the amaranth plant. The color shown is the color of the red amaranth flower (the color normally considered amaranth), but there are other varieties of amaranth that have other colors of amaranth flowers; these colors are also shown below. Description The color amaranth is displayed at right. This color is also called ''amaranth red'' to distinguish it from the varying colors of other varieties of the amaranth flower. The color ''amaranth'' is similar to printer's magenta (pigment magenta), but redder. It is the color of the flower of those amaranth plants that have ''amaranth red'' colored flowers. The first recorded use of ''amaranth'' as a color name in English was in 1690. Etymology The name ''amaranth'' comes from the Greek ''a'' (not) + ''marainean'' (to waste away), i.e., a flower believed to grow on Mount Olympus which never died. Amaranth
''Amaranthus'' is a cosmopolitan genus of annual or short-lived perennial plants collectively known as amaranths. Some amaranth species are cultivated as leaf vegetables, pseudocereals, and ornamental plants. Catkin-like cymes of densely packed flowers grow in summer or autumn. Amaranth varies in flower, leaf, and stem color with a range of striking pigments from the spectrum of maroon to crimson and can grow longitudinally from tall with a cylindrical, succulent, fibrous stem that is hollow with grooves and bracteoles when mature. There are approximately 75 species in the genus, 10 of which are dioecious and native to North America with the remaining 65 monoecious species endemic to every continent (except Antarctica) from tropical lowlands to the Himalayas. Members of this genus share many characteristics and uses with members of the closely related genus '' Celosia''. Amaranth grain is collected from the genus. The leaves of some species are also eaten. Descriptio ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Amarantine (album)
''Amarantine'' is the sixth studio album by Irish singer-songwriter and musician Enya, released on 21 November 2005 by Warner Bros. Records internationally and by Reprise Records in the United States the next day. Following the release of her 2002 compilation box set ''Only Time – The Collection'', Enya took a short break before she started work on a new album in September 2003, her first since ''A Day Without Rain'' (2000). ''Amarantine'' was recorded in Ireland with her longtime recording partners, arranger and producer Nicky Ryan and his wife, lyricist Roma Ryan. It is Enya's first album not to include a song in Irish and her first to include songs sung in Japanese and Loxian, a fictional language created by Roma. ''Amarantine'' received mixed reviews from critics, but it was a commercial success and reached No. 6 on the ''Billboard'' 200 in the United States, where it sold one million copies in its first month of release, and No. 8 on the UK Albums Chart. Amarantine (song)
"Amarantine" is a single by Irish musician Enya, taken from the album of the same name. The word is taken from ancient Greek and means ''everlasting'' or ''immortal'' (the same as the amaranth flower). The single was released in the United Kingdom on 5 December 2005. Several versions of "Amarantine" were released, some containing all three tracks, and some omitting the "Spaghetti Western" track. In some areas, Reprise released both a "Part I" single containing "Amarantine" and "The Comb of the Winds" and a "Part II" single that contained all three tracks. The "Spaghetti Western Theme" is an atypical Enya recording arranged in the style of Ennio Morricone's work on films such as ''A Fistful of Dollars'' and ''The Good, the Bad and the Ugly''. A previously unreleased recording from '' The Celts'' soundtrack from 1986, Enya released it in memory of BBC producer Tony McAuley. Enya performed the song on ''Live! with Regis and Kelly'' and ''The Early Show''. Track listing Frenc ...
