Amanda Robins
Amanda Robins (born 1961) is an Australian contemporary artist who is best known for her paintings and large-scale drawings of clothing and drapery. She trained in Melbourne at the Chisholm Institute of Technology, and the Victorian College of the Arts. She became the Studio Head of Painting and Drawing at the South Australian School of Art, University of South Australia. Her drawings have been frequently selected to hang in the Dobell Prize for Drawing at the Art Gallery of NSW. Her entry in 2001, ''Linen dress'', was subsequently purchased by Margaret Olley and donated to the gallery. Robins has held eight solo exhibitions, and participated in over 30 group exhibitions. Her work is held by Artbank, the Art Gallery of NSW, the Benalla Regional Art Gallery in Victoria, and many private collections. Dobell Prize
The Dobell Drawing Prize is a biennial drawing prize and exhibition, held by the National Art School in association with the Sir William Dobell Art Foundation.The prize is an open call to all artists and aims to explore the enduring importance of drawing and the breadth and dynamism of contemporary approaches to drawing. About The Dobell Drawing Prize is one of the highest value prizes for drawing in Australia. The prize had previously been held in conjunction with the Archibald Prize, Sulman Prize, Wynne Prize at the Art Gallery of NSW. The Dobell Drawing Prize, now held at the National Art School, runs in alternative years to the Dobell Australian Drawing Biennial at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. The Art Gallery of New South Wales (AGNSW), founded as the New South Wales Academy of Art in 1872 and known as the National Art Gallery of New South Wales between 1883 and 1958, is located in The Domain, Sydney, Australia. Margaret Olley
Margaret Hannah Olley (24 June 192326 July 2011) was an Australian painter. She was the subject of more than ninety solo exhibitions. Early life Margaret Olley was born in Lismore, New South Wales. She was the eldest of three children of Joseph Olley and Grace (née Temperley). The Olley family moved to Tully, Queensland, Tully in far north Queensland in 1925, with Margaret boarding at Cathedral School, Townsville, St Anne's in Townsville in 1929, before returning to New South Wales in 1931. The family temporarily moved to Brisbane in 1935 with Margaret staying to attend Somerville House in Brisbane during her high school years. She was so focused on art that she dropped one French class in order to take another art lesson with teacher and artist Caroline Barker (artist), Caroline Barker. Artbank
Artbank is an art rental program established in 1980 by the Australian Government. It supports contemporary Australian artists and encourages a wider appreciation of their work by buying artworks which it then rents to public and private sector clients. History Artbank was modelled on Canada's Art Bank, after then federal minister for the arts, Bob Ellicott, saw the Ottawa collection in 1979 and convinced Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser of the value of the idea. Fraser was enthusiastic, but treasurer John Howard took a little more convincing, before allotting in seed funding. The collection was founded in 1980 with an endowment of 600 artworks from the National Gallery of Australia. By 1992 Artbank had become so profitable that its government funding was cut off and it operated on self-generated income.
