Amagansett
Amagansett is a census-designated place that roughly corresponds to the hamlet by the same name in the Town of East Hampton in Suffolk County, New York, United States, on the South Shore of Long Island. As of the 2010 United States Census, the CDP population was 1,165. Amagansett hamlet was founded in 1680. History Amagansett derives its name from the Montaukett name for "place of good water" from a water source near what today is Indian Wells beach. Unlike the rest of the Hamptons, Amagansett was initially settled by the Baker, Conklin, and Barnes families, descendants of English settlers, and the Dutch brothers Abraham and Jacob Schellinger, the sons of a New Amsterdam merchant who moved to East Hampton between 1680 and 1690 after the English took over New Amsterdam. Amagansett (LIRR Station)
Amagansett is a station on the Montauk Branch of the Long Island Rail Road, at Main Street ( NY 27) and Abrahms Landing Road (former Suffolk CR 33A) in Amagansett, New York. History Amagansett station was opened on June 1, 1895, by the Brooklyn and Montauk Railroad, and closely resembled stations such as Sea Cliff and the former East Williston Depot, but lacked the second story and gingerbread woodwork trim that these depots contained. It was burned to the ground in 1909, reportedly by a disgruntled LIRR employee. The station was rebuilt on August 15, 1910, in the colonial barn style typical of stations such as Riverhead, Bay Shore, Northport, and Mineola. Until 1929, it had train sheds, a wye, and coal and water dispensing facilities. East Hampton (town), New York
The Town of East Hampton is located in southeastern Suffolk County, New York, at the eastern end of the South Shore of Long Island. It is the easternmost town in the state of New York. At the time of the 2020 United States census, it had a total population of 28,385. Operation Pastorius
Operation Pastorius was a failed German intelligence plan for sabotage inside the United States during World War II. The operation was staged in June, 1942 and was to be directed against strategic American economic targets. The operation was named by Admiral Wilhelm Canaris, chief of the German ''Abwehr'', for Francis Daniel Pastorius, the organizer of the first organized settlement of Germans in America. Fourteen other people would be charged with aiding those in charge of the operation. Background After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941, followed by Germany's declaration of war on the United States four days later, and the United States' declaration of war on Germany in response, Hitler authorized a mission to sabotage the American war effort and attack civilian targets to demoralize the American civilian population inside the United States. The Hamptons

Montauk ( ) is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the Town of East Hampton in Suffolk County, New York, on the eastern end of the South Shore of Long Island. As of the 2020 United States census, the CDP's population was 4,318. The CDP encompasses an area that stretches approximately from Napeague, New York, to the easternmost tip of New York State at Montauk Point Light. HMS Culloden (1776)
HMS ''Culloden'' was a 74-gun third-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, built at Deptford Dockyard, England, and launched on 18 May 1776. She was the fourth warship to be named after the Battle of Culloden, which took place in Scotland in 1746 and saw the defeat of the Jacobite rising. She served with the Channel Fleet during the American War of Independence. May, 1778 under command of Capt. George Balfour. She saw action at the Battle of Cape St Vincent, before being sent out to the West Indies. Her stay there was brief, sailing for New York City with Admiral Rodney in August 1780 to join the North American station. New Amsterdam
New Amsterdam ( nl, Nieuw Amsterdam, or ) was a 17th-century Dutch settlement established at the southern tip of Manhattan Island that served as the seat of the colonial government in New Netherland.
