Alwiya Gamil
Alwiya Gamil () was an Egyptian actress of Lebanese origin whose real name was Elisabeth Khalil Majdalani. She was born in Lebanon on December 15, 1910 and immigrated with her parents to Egypt. Career Gamil began her career at the age of 15 when she joined Youssef Wahbi's performing group Ramesses in 1925. It is believed that Wahbi gave her the stage name. Gamil is known for her notable roles in '' Zainab'' (1930), '' Victory of Youth'' (1941), '' Berlanti'' (1944). She also appeared in ''No Agreement'' (1961) '' The Cursed Palace'' (1962) and '' A Wife From Paris'' (1996). She retired in 1967. Personal life Gamil married twice. Her second marriage was in 1939 to the Egyptian actor, Mahmoud el-Meliguy. They did not have children but raised her three children from her first marriage together. Gamil died on August 16, 1994. Mahmoud el-Meligy (, ; 22 December 1910 – 6 June 1983) was an Egyptian screenwriter and an actor of film, theater, and television. He started his career playing minor roles but achieved stardom in the late 1930s. A popular and award-winning actor, he has acted in hundreds of films and was famous for his evil, villain roles. Career El-Meligy is the descendant of an Egyptian family that took its name from the Egyptian city of Melieg in Monufia Governorate Monufia ( ' ) is one of the governorates of Egypt. Youssef Wahbi
Youssef Abdallah Wahbi Qotb () (14 July 1898 – 17 October 1982) was an Egyptian stage, film actor and director, a leading star of the 1930s and 1940s and one of the most prominent Egyptian stage actors of all time, who also served on the jury of the Cannes Film Festival in 1946. He was born to a high state official in Egypt but renounced his family's wealth and traveled to Rome in the 1919 to study theatre, married with Elena Lunda. Besides his stage work, he acted in around 50 films in Egyptian cinema, starting with ''Awlad al-Zawat'' ('' Sons of Aristocrats,'' 1932) to "Iskanderiya... lih?" ('' Alexandria... Why?'', 1978). ''Intisar al-Shabab'' (') is an Egyptian film released in 1941. It was the first film featuring sibling actor-singers Asmahan and her brother Farid al-Atrash, the latter of whom composed all the songs in the film. Al-Atrash presented the operetta-within-a-film ''ليلة في الأندلس'' (“A Night in Andalusia”), the first of several lyrical theatre pieces in Egyptian cinema, including text from poet Ahmed Rami quoted from The Barber of Seville.
