Alvin Law
Alvin Law (born 1960 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan) is a motivational speaker and former radio broadcaster. Law was born without arms as a consequence of his mother's use of thalidomide while pregnant. His birth parents put him up for adoption, and he was raised by foster parents Hilda and Jack Law. Law learned to perform routine activities using his feet alone, including eating, dressing and grooming himself, driving, sewing, playing sports, and playing drums, piano, and trombone. He attended regular elementary and high schools, even though at the time disabled children were usually placed in institutions or special education programs. After graduating from college, Law embarked on a successful career in radio broadcasting. He expressed an interest in moving to television, but network executives were unsure of how the public would react to an armless news anchor. Law began dabbling in motivational speaking in 1981. 1986 Saskatchewan General Election
The 1986 Saskatchewan general election was held on October 20, 1986, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. The Progressive Conservative government of Premier Grant Devine was returned for a second term with a reduced majority in the legislature. While the New Democratic Party managed to increase its share of the popular vote and significantly increase its presence in the legislature, former Premier Allan Blakeney's attempt to return to power was unsuccessful. Despite winning slightly more votes than the Tories, most of the NDP margin was wasted on landslide margins in Regina and Saskatoon. While the NDP won eight seats in Regina and eight seats in Saskatoon, they only won nine seats in the rest of the province. As a result, they were consigned to Official Opposition status for another term. Canadian Disability Hall Of Fame
The Canadian Disability Hall of Fame (formerly the Terry Fox Hall of Fame), recognizes "outstanding Canadians who have made extraordinary contributions to enriching the quality of life for people with physical disabilities". Telemiracle
''Telemiracle'' is an annual telethon organized by the Kinsmen and Kinettes in Saskatchewan, Canada for the benefit of the Kinsmen Foundation. Initially broadcast on both CTV and CBC affiliates in Saskatchewan, it is now broadcast, commercial-free, exclusively on the province's CTV affiliates– CKCK in Regina, CFQC in Saskatoon, CIPA in Prince Albert and CICC in Yorkton. The telethon is generally broadcast the first full weekend of March, but in a rare and COVID-19-induced exception to that rule, the 45th edition of the telethon was based at Prairieland Park in Saskatoon on February 27 and 28, 2021. Like the 2021 telethon, the 46th edition of the telethon took place without a live audience, in Regina's REAL District on March 5 and 6, 2022. Regina Walsh Acres is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, Canada. Originally created for the 16th Saskatchewan general election in 1967 from parts of Regina North and Regina West, this constituency has changed boundaries many times.
