Alternative (political Bloc)
The Alternative (, ) is a political alliance in Moldova founded in 2025 by incumbent mayor of Chișinău Ion Ceban, 2024 presidential candidate Alexandr Stoianoglo, former Prime Minister Ion Chicu, and former MP Mark Tkachuk. The alliance presents itself as pro-European and considers European integration to be a major objective for Moldova. Member parties Positions The bloc positions itself as pro-European and anti- Moldovenist without advocating for the unification of Moldova and Romania. However, despite this position, the bloc has announced its willingness to collaborate with all other political parties, including unionist ones. Media outlets have variously called the bloc centrist or centre-left, and, according to some, it is seeking to occupy the political space formerly held by the Democratic Party of Moldova prior to its electoral collapse in the 2021 election. Centrism
Centrism is the range of political ideologies that exist between left-wing politics and right-wing politics on the left–right political spectrum. Chișinău
Chișinău ( , , ; formerly known as Kishinev) is the Capital city, capital and List of cities and towns in Moldova, largest city of Moldova. The city is Moldova's main industrial and commercial centre, and is located in the middle of the country, on the river Bîc, a tributary of the Dniester. 2021 Moldovan Parliamentary Election
Snap parliamentary elections were held in Moldova on 11 July 2021. Following the resignation of Ion Chicu, the position of Prime Minister became vacant, with the Parliament being obligated to form a new government within three months. After the expiration of the constitutionally mandated period and two failed attempts to win parliamentary approval for the proposed cabinets, the Constitutional Court ruled on 15 April that the circumstances justifying a dissolution of the parliament were met. President Maia Sandu signed the decree dissolving the Parliament on 28 April and snap parliamentary elections were called on. The Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) received 52.80% of the vote and won 63 seats, obtaining a majority in the 101-seat parliament. European Social Democratic Party
The European Social Democratic Party (, PSDE) is a centre-left, populist social democratic political party in Moldova. Established in 1997, the party holds pro-European views, and is an associate member of the Party of European Socialists (PES) and a full member of the Socialist International. According to its statute, the PSDE pleads that Moldova is an independent, sovereign, and democratic state, based on law, and integrated in the united family of European democracies. Unification Of Moldova And Romania
The unification of Moldova and Romania is the idea that Moldova and Romania should become a single sovereign state and the political movement which seeks to bring it about. Beginning during the Revolutions of 1989 (including the Romanian Revolution and the independence of Moldova from the Soviet Union), the movement's basis is in the cultural similarity of the two countries, both being Romanian language, Romanian-speaking, and their history of unity as part of Greater Romania. Moldovenism
Moldovenism is the political support and promotion of a Moldovan identity and culture, including a Moldovan language, independent from those of any other ethnic group, the Romanians' in particular. No group or movement ever identified itself as "Moldovenist". Some of its supporters ascribe this identity to the medieval Principality of Moldavia. Others, in order to explain the current differences between Romanian-speaking inhabitants of the two banks of the Prut River, ascribe it to the long incorporation of Bessarabia in the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union. Iurie Muntean (born 13 May 1972) is a Moldovans, Moldovan politician, who served as a deputy Ministry of Economy (Moldova), Minister of Economy and Trade (2008–2009) and member of the Parliament of Moldova (2009–2014).
