Alpine Freefalls
Alpine Freefalls is a water slide complex manufactured by ProSlide, currently operating since June 2, 2012, at Six Flags Great Escape and Hurricane Harbor in Queensbury, New York. The complex features 2 slides, ''Twisted Racer'' (a KrakenRacer) and ''Cliffhanger'' (a speed slide). History On August 22, 2011, ''Six Flags Great Escape Lodge & White Water Bay'' announce on their Facebook page that there is going to be a big surprise for their loyal fans of the lodge on Thursday September 1, 2011. Then on the first of September 2011, the Great Escape announced ''Alpine Freefalls'' for the 2012 season. ''Alpine Freefalls'' opened to the public on June 2, 2012, a couple weeks after Splashwater Kingdom (which would later be renamed to Hurricane Harbor in 2019) opened for the season. Water Slide
A water slide (also referred to as a flume, or water chute) is a type of Playground slide, slide designed for warm-weather or indoor recreational use at water parks. Water slides differ in their riding method and therefore size. Some slides require riders to sit directly on the slide, or on a raft or tube designed to be used with the slide. A typical water slide uses a pump system to pump water to the top which is then allowed to freely flow down its surface. The water reduces friction so sliders travel down the slide very quickly. Water slides run into a swimming pool (often called a plunge pool) or a long run-out chute. Six Flags Great Escape and Hurricane Harbor is an amusement and water park owned and operated by Six Flags. It is located approximately north of Albany, in Queensbury, New York. It was one of three Six Flags parks not to be officially branded with the "Six Flags" name until 2022, with La Ronde in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and Frontier City in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, being the last two without the Six Flags branding. History The Great Escape was opened in 1954 as Storytown USA, a Mother Goose themed amusement park by businessman Charles Wood who bought the land with his wife for $75,000. In 1957, realizing that the park was geared only toward small children, the park opened its Ghost Town area, the first of many themed areas opened in the park's history. Hurricane Harbor is a chain of water parks that are part of the Six Flags theme park chain. Although the parks are not identical, common features include a variety of body slides, speed slides, tube slides, wave pools, lazy rivers, and shopping areas. History Six Flags began using the Hurricane Harbor brand in 1995 with the opening of Six Flags Hurricane Harbor adjacent to Six Flags Magic Mountain.
