Alpha Radio
Alpha Radio was a community radio station based in Darlington, England, for south County Durham. The brand has been bought and used multiple times, the current third iteration was formerly known as Darlo Radio. The original version was merged into Star Radio North East, Star Radio, the second into Nation Radio North East, Sun FM. History When launched in 1995 as A1FM, Alpha was owned by Radio Investments Ltd while First Radio Sales In 2009, Alpha was joined by neighbouring station Minster Northallerton to share the studio complex in a cost-cutting exercise. To make further savings, both Alpha and Minster Northallerton, along with Durham FM were rebranded as Star Radio North East which meant all three stations lost their heritage names and only produced a daily breakfast show. Since June 2010, output has been networked across all frequencies, although commercial breaks were still unique to the three areas. Darlington
Darlington is a market town in the Borough of Darlington, County Durham, England. It lies on the River Skerne, west of Middlesbrough and south of Durham. Rathergood Radio, formerly known as Star Radio (in County Durham), was an Independent Local Radio station. It formerly broadcast in Darlington, County Durham, North Yorkshire and surrounding areas on FM. The County Durham licences were owned and operated by UKRD Group until 31 March 2017, when it was purchased and later rebranded by View TV Group. Nation Radio North East is an Independent Local Radio station broadcasting from studios in Sunderland to across the North East region of England which includes Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, County Durham, Teesside and parts of North Yorkshire. Minster Northallerton
Minster Northallerton was an Independent Local Radio station based in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, England. History Prior to launch, Minster Northallerton was originally known as BTN FM, after the principal towns of the area - Bedale, Thirsk and Northallerton. The Local Radio Company were awarded the franchise in November 2005 by OFCOM and the station launched on 11 June 2007. The station was later given permission by OFCOM to move into the same building as Alpha Radio in Darlington which is outside of Minster Northallerton's broadcast area and to share some programmes with Alpha Radio. The station was also going to be renamed as Alpha Northallerton. Durham FM
Durham FM was an Independent Local Radio station based in Durham, County Durham, England. History From its launch in 2005, Durham FM was owned and operated by TLRC. In December 2008, Durham FM submitted an application to Ofcom to co-locate with sister station, Sun FM in Sunderland. Following a consultation, the majority of responses were against the idea. In July 2009, Ofcom give permission to rename Durham FM to Alpha Durham, and sister station Minster Northallerton to Alpha Northallerton. All programmes on would be shared, except for a local breakfast show and four-hour show on Saturday and Sunday, each produced and broadcast locally.
