Alpha Phi Omega (Philippines)
The Alpha Phi Omega Philippines Incorporated, commonly known as Alpha Phi Omega Collegiate Service Fraternity and Sorority or simply Alpha Phi Omega or APO (), is a service fraternity and sorority in the Philippines founded in 1950. It is the first established national chapter of Alpha Phi Omega outside of the United States, although both organizations have separate leaderships and operate independently. Alpha Phi Omega has 250 chapters in the Philippines and 150,000 members as of 2010. Alpha Phi Omega commits to the "development of a world-class membership that cares for the quality of life with complete complement guided by the three cardinal principles of Leadership, Friendship, and Service." The Oblation (Filipino: ''Pahinungod'', ''Oblasyon'') is a concrete statue by Philippine National Artist Guillermo Tolentino that serves as one of the symbols of the University of the Philippines. It depicts a man facing upward with arms outstretched, symbolizing a selfless offering of oneself to his union. The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP; ) is a public, coeducational, research university in Santa Mesa, Manila, Philippines. It was founded on 19 October 1904, as the Manila Business School (MBS) and as part of Manila's public school system. An oblation is a solemn offering, sacrifice or presentation to God, to the Church for use in God's service, or to the faithful, such as giving alms to the poor. Oblation Run
The Oblation Run (sometimes referred to as Pylon Run or the Ritual Dance of the Brave) is an annual event held by the University of the Philippines (UP) and Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) chapters of Alpha Phi Omega (APO) on the PUP and different UP campuses. The runners are male, and traditionally run completely naked in public places, with their genitals fully visible, on a designated route. The event was first organized in 1977 at the University of the Philippines Diliman to promote ''Hubad na Bayani'' ( Tagalog for ''Naked Hero''), a film. It draws its name from the ''Oblation'', a statue of a nude man located in every University of the Philippines campus, which symbolizes "a selfless offering of one's self to the country." Puyat Avenue, also known simply as Gil Puyat Avenue and by its former official name Buendia Avenue, is a major arterial thoroughfare which runs east–west through Makati and Pasay in western Metro Manila, Philippines. Tondo is a district located in Manila, Philippines. It is the largest, in terms of area and population, of Manila's sixteen districts, with a census-estimated 654,220 people in 2020.
