Alok Kumar Shakya
Alok Kumar Shakya is a member of the 14th, 15th and Sixteenth Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh in India. He represents the Bhongaon constituency of Uttar Pradesh and is a member of the Samajwadi Party political party. In 2022, prior to by-election in Mainpuri Assembly constituency, Shakya was appointed as district president of Samajwadi Party for Mainpuri. This was done in a bid to secure the support of Shakya voters, who were the most populous group after Yadavs in this constituency. He has also served as a minister in Government of Uttar Pradesh. Early life and education Alok Kumar was born in Mainpuri district. He attended the Chaudhary Charan Singh University and attained Bachelor of Arts degree. Bhongaon Assembly constituency is one of the 403 constituencies of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, India. It is a part of the Mainpuri district and one of the four assembly constituencies in the Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency. First election in this assembly constituency was held in 1957 after the "DPACO (1956)" (delimitation order) was passed in 1956. 2017 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election
The election to the 17th Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly was held from 11 February to 8 March 2017 in 7 phases. This election saw a voter turnout of 61.11% compared to 59.40% in the previous election. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the election by an overwhelming three-quarters majority of 325 seats despite not projecting a chief ministerial candidate before the election. As part of its election strategy, BJP contested under a collective leadership and capitalised mostly on the political clout and 'brand' of its leader Narendra Modi.
