Frank Almy
Frank C. Almy (born George H. Abbott, June 5, 1857 – May 16, 1893) was an American convicted murderer hanged by the state of New Hampshire for killing a woman in Hanover, New Hampshire, in July 1891. Background George Abbott was born in 1857 in Salem, Massachusetts, and moved with his foster parents to North Thetford, Vermont, at age 10. At age 17, in 1874, he was sentenced to four years in New Hampshire prison for a burglary in Orford, New Hampshire. After his release in 1878, he returned to his hometown of Salem, but by 1879 was back in the Connecticut River area of Vermont and New Hampshire, where he was involved in more burglaries. He was eventually caught, and sentenced to 15 years in prison in Vermont, entering in June 1881, aged 23. He escaped from prison in September 1887, and thereafter went by the name Frank C. Almy. Mary Almy
Mary Almy (1883–1967) was an American architect, and a partner at Howe, Manning & Almy, Inc., one of the first architecture firms founded by women in the United States and specializing in domestic architecture. She studied architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1917 to 1919. Early life and education Almy grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She had polio as a child and walked with crutches throughout her life. In 1905 she graduated from Radcliffe College. She worked as a teacher before developing an interest in architecture. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1919 after three years of study. Mary Gould Almy
Mary Gould Almy (1735–1808) was a diarist during the American Revolution. She lived in Newport, Rhode Island, where she ran a boarding house. She kept a journal in 1778 documenting the events leading up to the Battle of Rhode Island. Though she had Loyalist views, her husband fought for the Continental Army. The original copy of her journal is held by Newport's Redwood Library and Athenaeum. It was first published 100 years after she wrote it. Naval historian John B. Hattendorf published an annotated version of the journal in 2018. Max Almy
Max Almy (born 1948) is an American video, digital media, and installation artist. Almy was born in 1948 in Omaha, Nebraska. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Nebraska in 1970. She studied at the University of Minnesota in St. Paul, Minnesota and received her Master of Fine Arts from California College of Arts and Crafts, Oakland, California, in 1978. In the 1980s, Almy used video advertising techniques to comment on television and society. Her work was included in the touring exhibition ''Making Their Mark: Women Artists Move into the Mainstream, 1970-1985''. Millie Almy (June 19, 1915 – August 16, 2001) was an American psychologist, known as the “grand dame of early childhood education.” Almy was a leader in the field of early childhood education and psychology, and played a critical role in shaping the science of child development. Her research explored how young children understand complex subjects such as science, mathematics and literature. Almy, Wyoming
Almy was a coal mining camp in Uinta County, Wyoming, Uinta County, Wyoming, United States, near the town of Evanston, Wyoming, Evanston. In 1881, an explosion killed 38 miners in the Central Pacific Mine, marking the first mine explosion west of the Mississippi River. Another explosion killed 13 in 1886, and a third explosion in Red Canyon in 1895 killed 62 miners, the third worst mining disaster in Wyoming history.
