Almon is a town in Shawano County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 591 at the 2000 Census. The unincorporated communities of Almon and Regina are located in the town. The unincorporated community of Shepley is also located partially in the town. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 35.2 square miles (91.1 km2), of which, 35.1 square miles (91.0 km2) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km2) of it (0.17%) is water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 591 people, 224 households, and 172 families residing in the town. The population density was 16.8 people per square mile (6.5/km2). There were 271 housing units at an average density of 7.7 per square mile (3.0/km2). The timber of trees of the genus is sold under the common names lauan, luan, lawaan, meranti, seraya, balau, bangkirai, and Philippine mahogany. Description The tallest documented tropical angiosperm is a '' Shorea faguetiana'' found in the Danum Valley Conservation Area, in Sabah, Malaysia (Borneo). In Sabah's Tawau Hills National Park, at least five other species of the genus have been measured to be over tall: '' S. argentifolia'', '' S. gibbosa'', '' S. johorensis'', '' S. smithiana'', and '' S. superba''.
