''Alma'' is a 2009 Spanish computer-animated dark fantasy horror short film produced by ex-Pixar animator Rodrigo Blaas. It had received notable recognition at the Fantastic Fest#2009, Fantastic Fest awards. The word ":wikt:alma#Spanish, alma" in Spanish means "Soul". The film is about a girl named Alma who wanders into a deserted town and store. Curiosity gets the better of her and she suffers an unfortunate fate. Alma (; 2021 Town population: 30,331; UA Population 20,274) is a town in Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, in the Canadian province of Quebec. History The present town of Alma was formed in 1962 from the merging of four villages: Isle-Maligne, Naudville, Riverbend and St-Joseph d'Alma. The oldest of the villages, St-Joseph-d'Alma, was founded in 1867 by Damase Boulanger. The area became an important industrial centre during the 1920s and 1930s with the construction of a hydro-electrical power station on the Grande-Décharge River, a paper mill (Price) and an aluminum smelting plant ( Alcan), all of which are still in activity today. In 2002, Alma merged with the Municipality of Delisle. Both modern day Alma and St-Joseph d'Alma are named after the Battle of the Alma. Alma, Ontario
Alma is an unincorporated rural community in Mapleton Township, Wellington County, Ontario, Canada. History Pioneers began settling along the Elora Saugeen Road, which forms the main street of Alma, during the 1840s. Alexander MacCrea and his wife settled here in 1848, and built a store. The "MacCrae's Corners" post office was established in 1854, and MacCrae was postmaster. In 1854, the settlement's name was changed from MacCrae's Corners to "Alma", after the Battle of Alma. James Ledingham and his family moved to Alma in 1864, and built a saw and chopping mill. In 1865, St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church was established in Alma. The church moved to a new stone church in Alma in 1892. The Wellington, Grey and Bruce Railway built a line through Alma in 1870. The line was eventually taken over by Canadian National Railway, and was abandoned in 1983. The Alma railroad station has since been destroyed. Alma is centered on the small delta of the Upper Salmon River and Cleveland Brook, where they empty into Salisbury Bay. Alma is a geographic parish on the Bay of Fundy in the southwestern corner of Albert County, New Brunswick, Canada. For governance purposes, Alma is divided between the village of Fundy Albert and the Southeast rural district, both of which are members of the Southeast Regional Service Commission. A small area on the western side of Fundy National Park belongs to the Fundy rural district. Prior to the 2023 governance reform, the parish was divided between the village of Alma and the local service district of the parish of Alma. Fundy National Park was ''de jure'' part of the LSD. The village and the park are now part of Fundy Albert, the LSD part of the rural district. The census subdivision of the same name includes all of the parish except the village of Alma, which forms its own census subdivision.
