Devon ( ; historically also known as Devonshire , ) is a ceremonial county in South West England. It is bordered by the Bristol Channel to the north, Somerset and Dorset to the east, the English Channel to the south, and Cornwall to the west. Exmouth and Exeter East is a constituency of the House of Commons in the UK Parliament. It was first contested in the 2024 general election and is currently represented by David Reed of the Conservative Party. A30 Road
The A30 is a major road in England, running WSW from London to Land's End. The road has been a principal axis in Britain from the 17th century to early 19th century, as a major coaching route and post road. It used to provide the fastest route from London to the South West by land until a century before roads were numbered; nowadays much of this function is performed by the M3 (including A316) and A303 roads. The road has kept its principal status in the west from Honiton, Devon to Land's End where it is mainly dual carriageway and retains trunk road status. Route London to Honiton The A30 begins at Henlys Roundabout, where the route stems from the A4 near Hounslow. It crosses the A312 before running south of the Southern Perimeter Road, Heathrow Airport and north of Ashford and Staines-upon-Thames, before reaching the M25 motorway orbital motorway. Whimple
Whimple is a village and civil parish in East Devon in the English county of Devon, approximately due east of the city of Exeter, and from the nearest small town, Ottery St Mary. The parish has a population of 1,983, recounted to 1,120 for the built up area in the United Kingdom Census 2021. The electoral ward with the same name had a population of 2,380 at the above census. History The settlement was listed in the Domesday Book as 'Winpla' which, according to the Oxford Dictionary of English Place Names, was originally the name of the stream that runs through the village, a Brythonic Celtic name meaning 'white pool' being a compound of the British words corresponding to Welsh ''gwyn'', 'white' and ''pwll'', 'pool'. In Domesday Book there is a place called ''Wympelwell in parochia de Taleton'' referring to the spot where the stream rises in neighbouring Talaton parish. Aylesbeare
Aylesbeare is a village and civil parish in the East Devon district of Devon, England, east of Exeter. According to the 2001 census, the parish, which includes the hamlet of Nutwalls, had a population of 527. Known for the Site of Special Scientific Interest on Aylesbeare Common that is managed by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, Aylesbeare was in the news during 1978 as the scene of the unresolved disappearance of the schoolgirl Genette Tate. Aylesbeare is on the northern side of the East Devon Pebbled Heathlands. Locally known as Woodbury Common, the heathlands are made up of 8 parish commons, including Aylesbeare Common. History Aylesbeare has a long, but lightly recorded, history. Tumuli on Aylesbeare Common indicate that the area was inhabited in prehistoric times. By the time of the Domesday Book in 1086, the village was known as Ailesbergon though, in common with many place names, it had many spellings over the years, including Aillesbir and Ailesberga. ...
