Allegheny Mountain Radio
Allegheny Mountain Radio or AMR is a network of full service, freeform-formatted community radio stations broadcasting to portions of West Virginia and Virginia in the United States. The stations serve Pocahontas County, West Virginia as well as Bath County, Virginia and Highland County, Virginia. This network is unique in that these are the only radio stations broadcasting from the three counties. The area sits within the National Radio Quiet Zone (NRQZ), which surrounds the Green Bank Radio Telescope in Green Bank, West Virginia. Due to the NRQZ and surrounding mountainous terrain, few out-of-area radio signals penetrate these counties. Full-service radio is a type of radio format characterized by a mix of music programming and a large amount of locally-produced and hyperlocal programming, such as news and discussion focusing on local issues, news, sports coverage, interviews, call-in segments, and sometimes religious content. Huntersville is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Pocahontas County, West Virginia, Pocahontas County, West Virginia, United States in the Alleghany Mountains. Height above average terrain (HAAT), or (less popularly) effective height above average terrain (EHAAT), is the vertical position of an antenna site above the surrounding landscape. HAAT is used extensively in FM radio and television, as it is more important than effective radiated power (ERP) in determining the range of broadcasts ( VHF and UHF in particular, as they are line of sight transmissions). History Hillsboro was named for pioneer John (Richard) Hill, from North Carolina, who built a log cabin near what is now Lobelia, West Virginia, Lobelia. In the 1800s the town of Hillsboro centered on the educational institution Little Levels Academy.
