Allan Martin (rugby Union)
Allan Jeffery Martin (born 11 December 1948) is a former Aberavon RFC and Welsh international rugby union player. He was noted for his long-distance goal-kicking and specialist line-out forward. Biography Having received his education at Sandfields Comprehensive school in Port Talbot Martin was capped at lock in every schoolboy age group by his country. His hometown club Aberavon RFC where he first started his playing career in 1966 were quick to recognise his athletic ability and size and quickly nurtured him into their ranks in the mid-1960s. He became the cubs most capped player with 34 caps for Wales and 2 British Lions Tours to New Zealand 1977 and South Africa in 1980. He played for Aberavon RFC in over 780 games from 1966 to 1992. Martin was first capped against Australia in 1973 along with his Aberavon teammate Clive Shell. Allan Martin (26 February 1872 – 12 May 1906) was a Scottish footballer who played for Rangers, Leith Athletic, Celtic and Hibernian. Record of pre-war Scottish League Players John Litster / Scottish Football Historian magazine, October 2012 He finished as the top scorer in the Scottish Football League Division One in the 1895–96 season. Career Raised in Glasgow and trained as an iron works furnace tender (a trade he was reluctant to curtail as his reputation as a footballer increased), Martin began his career as a half back with Northern F.C. and was selected for the Scottish Football Alliance XI against the rival Scottish Football League in 1892. He soon joined Rangers but played only two league matches for the club, going back to Northern before the end of the year (during which time he was selected to represent the Glasgow FA in their annual challenge match against Sheffield), moving on to Leith Athletic for another short period, and thereafter joining Hiberni ...
