Allan Loomes
Allan Henry Loomes (25 April 19171 November 1990) was an Australian public servant and diplomat. Born at Burrinjuck, New South Wales, Loomes was the youngest of four children. After service in the RAAF during World War II, Loomes moved to Canberra in 1946 to join the Commonwealth Public Service in the Department of External Affairs. His appointments included ambassadorial roles in Burma, Thailand, South Korea, Peru and Venezuela. In 1976 Loomes received non-resident accreditation for Colombia as Australia's first ambassador, presenting his credentials to President Alfonso López Michelsen. Loomes was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in January 1962. Loomes died on 1 November 1990. Burrinjuck, New South Wales
Burrinjuck is a village community in the far eastern part of the Riverina. It is situated by road, about 15 kilometres southwest from Woolgarlo and 28 kilometres south from Bookham. The name of the town is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning 'mountain with a rugged top'. At the , the Burrinjuck area had a population of 19. The village is situated on the western side of Burrinjuck Dam which holds water from the Murrumbidgee River and which was constructed between 1907 and 1928 (with World War I interfering with the timing of the construction). During the construction of the dam and in the time during which it filled, there was a settlement known as 'Barren Jack City' facing the river at the base of the Burrinjuck mountain. Much of its site was later submerged as the dam water rose. The locality of Burrinjuck includes part of one of the proposed sites for Australia's national capital, which was known as Mahkoolma. The ambassador of Australia to Peru is an officer of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the head of the Embassy of the Commonwealth of Australia to the Republic of Peru. The position has the rank and status of an ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary and holds non-resident accreditation for Bolivia (since 2010). Prior to accreditation with Bolivia being transferred to the embassy in Lima, accreditation has been held variously by Ambassadors to Chile, Argentina and Brazil. Hugh Alexander Dunn (20 August 1923 – 5 November 2005) was a career Australian diplomat known for his knowledge of China; namely Taiwan (1969–1972) and of the People's Republic of China (1980–1984). Biography Dunn was born in Rockhampton, Queensland on 20 August 1923. After completing school at Brisbane Boys' College, he enlisted in the A.I.F., trained in Signals Intelligence and moved with MacArthur's troops through New Guinea and then to the Military history of the Philippines during World War II, Philippines where the Japanese surrender took place. Returning to Australia after the War, he studied at the University of Queensland. He was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford University where he studied classical Chinese language, Chinese history, history and Chinese philosophy, philosophy.
