Allan Beswick
Allan Beswick (born 8 October 1948 in Warrington, Lancashire) is a retired radio broadcaster who is best known for his popular phone-in programmes on BBC Radio Manchester, BBC Radio Merseyside, BBC Radio Lancashire and Red Rose Radio. Before starting his late-night phone show on the BBC, Beswick presented the breakfast show on BBC Radio Manchester. Career Prior to becoming a radio presenter, Beswick worked as a soldier, a bus driver, a driving instructor and a mental health nurse and for the Citizen's Advice Bureau; during his time at the C.A.B. he began to appear as a guest on ''Dave Lincoln and Friends'', a programme on Radio City (Liverpool), Radio City in Liverpool. In the early to late eighties, he worked for Lancashire station Red Rose Radio where he initially presented an afternoon show which won him a Sony national radio award. Warrington () is an industrial town in the Borough of Warrington, borough of the same name in Cheshire, England. The Manchester Arena bombing, or Manchester Arena attack, was an Islamic terrorism in Europe, Islamic terrorist suicide bombing of Manchester Arena in Manchester, England, on 22 May 2017, following Dangerous Woman Tour, a concert by the American pop singer Ariana Grande. Perpetrated by Islamic extremist Salman Abedi and aided by his brother, Hashem Abedi, the bombing occurred at 22:31 and killed 22 people, injured 1,017, and destroyed the arena's foyer. It was the deadliest act of terrorism and the first suicide bombing in the United Kingdom since the 7 July 2005 London bombings. Winsford Mine
Winsford Mine (also known as Meadow Bank Mine) is a halite (rock salt) mine in the town of Winsford, Cheshire, England. The mine produces an average of of rock salt a year, which is used to grit public roads in the United Kingdom during the winter months. Two other mines also produce rock salt within the United Kingdom, but Winsford has the biggest output of all three and has the largest market share. It is also Britain's oldest working mine. History The salt in the area was discovered by accident when workers were looking for coal reserves to heat saltpans. It was opened out in 1844, but a downturn in the rock salt market led to its closure in 1892. It was re-opened in 1928 when a nearby salt mine, the Marston Mine in Northwich, was subjected to flooding after subsidence. Independent Broadcasting Authority
The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) was the regulatory body in the United Kingdom for commercial television ( ITV and Channel 4 and limited satellite television regulation – cable television was the responsibility of the Cable Authority) – and commercial and independent radio broadcasts. The IBA came into being when the Sound Broadcasting Act 1972 gave the Independent Television Authority responsibility for organising the new Independent Local Radio (ILR) stations.
