Allah Bakhsh Malik
Allah Bakhsh Malik is a Pakistani social scientist, public policy advisor, academic, researcher and author with experience in management, education, institutional and human development. He was conferred UNESCO Confucius Prize in 2011 in recognition of his contributions and services in education sector in Pakistan. He is the first Pakistani and the Muslim recipient of Confucius Award. He founded Punjab Education Foundation and Punjab Small Industries Corporation. He was Education Secretary from 2017 to 2019. He also served as the Health Secretary of Pakistan. He successfully led the Pakistani team of multi-disciplinary professionals during pandemic of Corrona virus in 2019 and his contribution was acknowledged and appreciated by the Government of Pakistan and World Health Organization (WHO). Pakistanis (, ) are the citizens and nationals of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Pakistan is the fifth-most populous country, with a population of over 241.5 million, having the second-largest Muslim population as of 2023. As much as 85-90% of the population follows Sunni Islam. The Education Secretary of Pakistan is the Federal Secretary for Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training. The position is occupied by a BPS-22 grade officer, usually belonging to the Pakistan Administrative Service. The Secretary heads the Ministry which is mandated to prepare policy direction for preparing and training of the country's manpower to meet national and international demands for skilled workforce. After the Eighteenth Amendment to the Constitution of Pakistan in 2010, the subject of education was devolved from the federal government to the provincial governments, which has drastically reduced the powers and mandate of the Federal Education Secretary.
