All Star Baseball
All Star Baseball is a 1941 baseball board game designed by baseball player Ethan Allen. The game, manufactured by Cadaco-Ellis, was the best-selling baseball board game of all time. It has been honored as one of the fifty most influential American board games of all time. History Ethan Allen had formulated the idea for a baseball-themed board game while playing for the Chicago Cubs, and brought the idea to Charles Mazer, head of Cadaco-Ellis. The first edition of All Star Baseball was released in 1941 and sold for $1.25. Unlike more simulation-focused competitors, most notably Strat-o-Matic Baseball, ''ASB'' is aimed at a younger audience and is simpler to play. The initial target audience was boys 9–12 years old. It simulates batters' performance well, but makes no attempt to model the performance of individual pitchers. ''All-Star Baseball'' is a series of baseball video games that was developed and published by Acclaim Entertainment. The series began in 1997 with the release of '' All-Star Baseball '97 Featuring Frank Thomas'', the successor to '' Frank Thomas Big Hurt Baseball''. New York Yankees play-by-play announcers John Sterling and Michael Kay were the announcers for 1998-2000 editions of the game. The final game in the series is ''All-Star Baseball 2005'', released in April 2004. The following month, Major League Baseball ended its licensing agreement with Acclaim for the franchise due to unpaid royalties. The franchise went inactive following Acclaim's bankruptcy in September 2004. Ethan Nathan Allen (January 1, 1904 – September 15, 1993) was an American center fielder in Major League Baseball from to . He played for the Cincinnati Reds (1926–30), New York Giants (1930–32), St. Louis Cardinals (1932–33), Philadelphia Phillies (1934–36), Chicago Cubs (1936), and St. Louis Browns (1936–38).
