''All People'' is an album by the American band Michael Franti & Spearhead, released in 2013 through Boo Boo Wax and Capitol Records. The first single was "I'm Alive (Life Sounds Like)". Franti supported the album with North American and Australian tours. In 2014, he continued to promote ''All People'' by headlining the Soulshine Music and Yoga Tour. Production The majority of the album was recorded in Hunters Point, with some of the mixing occurring while the band was on tour. The album continued Franti's turn toward pop music; he had concluded that a pop song could be as comforting and meaningful as a protest song. For the first time in his career, Franti worked with outside songwriters and producers, including Sam Hollander, the Matrix, and Adrian Newman. Franti recorded around 35 songs and listened to the rough mixes while doing his morning yoga, to ensure that they were properly "inspiring". Michael Franti (born April 21, 1966) is an American singer, songwriter, musician, poet, activist, documentarian, and rapper. Known for his participation in many musical projects, most with a political and social emphasis, including the Beatnigs and the Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy. He is the creator and lead vocalist of Michael Franti & Spearhead, a band which blends hip hop with a variety of other styles including funk, reggae, jazz, folk, and rock. He is also an outspoken supporter for a wide spectrum of peace and social justice issues; he is especially an advocate for peace in the Middle East. Early life Michael Franti was born in Oakland, California. His mother, Mary Lofy, had Irish, German, and Belgian ancestry; his father, Thomas Hopkins, was of African American and Native American descent. Trayvon Benjamin Martin (February 5, 1995 – February 26, 2012) was a 17-year-old African-American from Miami Gardens, Florida, who was killing of Trayvon Martin, fatally shot in Sanford, Florida, by George Zimmerman, a 28-year-old Hispanic and Latino Americans, Hispanic-American. Martin had accompanied his father to visit his father's fiancée at her townhouse at The Retreat at Twin Lakes in Sanford. On the evening of February 26, Martin was walking back to the fiancée's house from a nearby convenience store. Zimmerman, a member of the community watch, saw Martin and reported him to the Sanford Police as suspicious. Several minutes later, an altercation happened and Zimmerman fatally shot Martin in the chest. Zimmerman was injured during the altercation with Martin.
