The All Malaysia Indian Progressive Front ( ms, Barisan Kemajuan India Se-Malaysia, ta, அகில மலேசிய இந்தியர் முன்னேற்ற முன்னனி, Aṉaittu malēciya intiya muṟpōkku muṉṉaṇi), abbrev: AMIPF, or better known just as the ''Indian Progressive Front'' ''(IPF)'', is a Malaysian political party. It is a splinter party of the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) formed by its dissident leader M. G. Pandithan in 1990. The party was a component of the defunct opposition coalition, Gagasan Rakyat (GR) from 1990 to 1996, but it currently supports the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition although it is not a component member. IPF had failed in its application to join BN after an objection from MIC. Instead it is being considered just as a 'Friends of BN' party. The Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC; ta, மலேசிய இந்திய காங்கிரஸ், Malēciya Intiya Kāṅkiras; formerly known as Malayan Indian Congress) is a Malaysian political party. It is one of the founding members of the coalition Barisan Nasional, previously known as the Alliance, which was in power from when the country achieved independence in 1957 until the elections in 2018. The party was among the first to fight for Malayan Independence and is one of the oldest parties in Malaysia. Politics of Malaysia takes place in the framework of a federal representative democratic constitutional monarchy, in which the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is head of state and the Prime Minister of Malaysia is the head of government. Executive power is exercised by the federal government and the 13 state governments. Legislative power is vested in the federal parliament and the 13 state assemblies. Legislation Under the current legislation, all political parties (termed "Political Associations") must be registered under the Societies Act. Election expenses The Election Offences Act (1954) regulates the maximum expenses allowed for candidates vying for parliamentary seats and for state seats during the campaign period (excluding before the nomination day and after election day). The permissible campaign expenditure set by the Election Offences Act (1954) is RM100,000 per candidate for state seats and RM200,000 per candidate for federal seats. The 2018 Malaysian General Election, formally known as the 14th Malaysian General Election (), was held on Wednesday, 9 May 2018, for members of the 14th Parliament of Malaysia.
