Alison Peek
Alison Louise Peek (born 12 October 1969), nicknamed "Peeky", is a former field hockey player from Australia, who competed in two Summer Olympics for her native country. She was a member of the Australia women's national field hockey team, best known as the ''Hockeyroos'', that won a gold medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics. As well as being an Olympic gold medallist, she won a Commonwealth Games gold medal, two World Cup gold medals, four Champions Trophy gold medals and was named in the Australian Women's ‘Team of the Century’. Field Hockey
Field hockey (or simply referred to as hockey in some countries where ice hockey is not popular) is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with 11 players in total, made up of 10 field players and a goalkeeper. Teams must move a hockey ball around a field by hitting it with a field hockey stick, hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal (sports), goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, although grass has become increasingly rare as a playing surface. Indoor hockey is usually played on a synthetic hard court or hardwood sports flooring, and beach version is played on sand. The Australia women's national field hockey team (nicknamed the Hockeyroos) are, as of August 2023, ranked second in the world.
