Alice Bates
The following is a list of characters that first appeared in the British soap opera ''Emmerdale'' in 1991, by order of first appearance. Alice Bates Alice Bates made her first appearance on 14 February 1991. She was played by two actresses: Kimberley Hewitt from 1991 to 1994 and by Rachel Tolboys from 1994 to 1999, with a reappearance in 2001. Hewitt made her final appearance on 9 June 1994, with a recast Alice first seen portrayed by Tolboys on 14 June 1994, just one episode later. Alice was born to Nick Bates and Elsa Feldmann. Nick and Elsa were due to get married but Elsa went into premature labour and Zoe Tate delivered the baby at Mill Cottage. Anna Keaveney
Anna Keaveney (born Ann Keaveney, 5 October 1949, Runcorn, Cheshire, England – 20 November 2004, aged 55) was an English actress best known for her role as Marie Jackson in the Channel 4 soap opera ''Brookside'', in which she appeared in over 100 episodes from 1983 to 1985. Amos Brearly
Amos Brearly is a fictional character from the British television soap opera ''Emmerdale'', played by Ronald Magill. He made his first appearance during the serial's debut episode on 16 October 1972. Amos ran The Woolpack pub and was the village gossip. A double act was later formed between Amos and Henry Wilks ( Arthur Pentelow), which lasted for 19 years. Amos became known for his bushy sideburns and catchphrase "Nay, Mr Wilks". Magill left the show in January 1991, but reprised the role for several brief appearances until July 1995. Kathy Merrick
Kathy Brookman (also Bates, Merrick, Tate and Glover) is a fictional character from the British television soap opera ''Emmerdale'', played by Malandra Burrows. She made her first appearance during the episode broadcast on 26 November 1985. In 2001, new series producer Steve Frost decided to write the character out. Chris Tate
Chris Tate is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera ''Emmerdale'', played by Peter Amory. The character made his first appearance on 14 November 1989, when he arrived in the village alongside the rest of the Tate family – his father Frank (Norman Bowler); stepmother Kim (Claire King); and younger sister Zoe (Leah Bracknell). Richard Thorp
Richard Stanley Thorp (2 January 1932 – 22 May 2013) was an English actor. He was best known for his 30-year tenure portraying Alan Turner in the ITV soap opera ''Emmerdale'' from 1982 to 2013. He also appeared in films such as '' The Dam Busters'' (1955) and ''The Barretts of Wimpole Street'' (1957). Early life Thorp was born in Purley, London. Whilst showing early ambitions to act he started working in the shoe business, Lilley & Skinner, where his father was one of several directors. There he began writing advertising copy including the line "Men's shoes that men choose" whilst continuing to pursue amateur dramatics. Joe Sugden
Joseph "Joe" Sugden is a fictional character from the British television soap opera ''Emmerdale'', played by Frazer Hines. He first appeared on-screen during the soap's first episode broadcast 16 October 1972 and remained in the programme until 1983. After a brief return in the following year, Hines reprised his role on a permanent basis in 1986, a landmark year for the show under Richard Handford. Rachel Hughes is a fictional character from the British television soap opera ''Emmerdale'', portrayed by Glenda McKay. She made her first appearance during the episode broadcast on 7 September 1988 and departed following the character's death on 12 May 1999.
