Algirdas Linkevičius
Algirdas Linkevičius (born 12 October 1950) is a retired Lithuanian basketball player, coach, most notable for his playing career in Žalgiris from 1969 to 1982. Early life Linkevičius was Biržai Sports School pupil. His first coach was Vladas Garastas. Onwards, he graduated the Lithuanian Sports University (LVKKI) in 1973. From 2001 to 2010 he worked as a Kaunas District Sports School basketball coach. Professional career Linkevičius began his professional sports career in Žalgiris basketball team and played for it from 1969 to 1982. He also represented Kaunas Drobės squad multiple times from 1974 to 1987. Though, his biggest achievements were reached with Žalgiris with which he won the Lithuanian basketball league seven times (1974, 1976, 1978–80, 1986, 1987), USSR tournament silver (1980) and USSR bronze three times (1971, 1973, 1978). Basketball Club Žalgiris () commonly known as BC Žalgiris, is a professional basketball club based in Kaunas, Lithuania. They compete domestically in the Lietuvos krepšinio lyga, Lithuanian Basketball League (''Lietuvos krepšinio lyga'') and internationally as a long-term licensed EuroLeague team. Soviet Deportations From Lithuania
Soviet deportations from Lithuania were a series of 35 mass deportations carried out in Lithuania, a country that was occupied as a Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic, constituent socialist republic of the Soviet Union, in 1941 and 1945–1952. At least 130,000 people, 70% of them women and children, were forcibly transported to labor camps and other Forced settlements in the Soviet Union, forced settlements in remote parts of the Soviet Union, particularly in the Irkutsk Oblast and Krasnoyarsk Krai. Among the deportees were about 4,500 Poles. Deportations included Lithuanian partisans and their sympathizers or political prisoners deported to Gulag labor camps (Operation Vesna). Deportations of the civilians served a double purpose: repressing resistance to Sovietization policies in Lithuania and providing free labor in sparsely inhabited areas of the Soviet Union. Lithuanian Sports University or LSU is a university in Kaunas, Lithuania, specializing in sports, physical activities, and physiology. It is headquartered in Žaliakalnis neighbourhood, in close proximity to the Kaunas Sports Hall and the S. Darius and S. Girėnas Stadium.
