Alfred Grenander
Alfred Frederik Elias Grenander (26 June 1863 – 14 March 1931) was a Swedish architect, who became one of the most prominent engineers during the first building period of the Berlin U-Bahn network in the early twentieth century. Biography Grenander was born at Skövde in Västra Götaland County, Sweden. He was raised in Stockholm and began studying at the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology in 1881. He changed to the Royal Technical College of Charlottenburg in 1885. After his final degree in 1890 he became a site engineer at the construction of the new Reichstag building under the direction of Paul Wallot and continued his career in the architectural office of Alfred Messel. In 1896 Grenander set up his own business and worked as a designer of the ''Hochbahngesellschaft'', an affiliate of Siemens & Halske established in 1897 to build the first U-Bahn elevated railway of Berlin, opened in 1902. Skövde
Skövde () is a locality and urban centre in Skövde Municipality and Västra Götaland County, in the Västergötland (Western Gothland region) in central Southern Sweden. Skövde is situated some 150 km northeast of Gothenburg, between Sweden's two largest lakes, Vänern and Vättern. It lies on the eastern slope of a low mountain ridge, Billingen (304 m), which cuts through the plain between the lakes. Wittenbergplatz is a Berlin U-Bahn station on lines U1, U2, and U3. The station is located at the Wittenbergplatz square in Berlin's City West area, in the northwestern corner of the Schöneberg neighbourhood. Spittelmarkt is a Berlin U-Bahn station on line U2, located in Mitte at the eastern end of Leipziger Straße. History The station was opened on 1 October 1908, and was then the terminus of Berlin's second U-Bahn line, connecting it with Potsdamer Platz on the initial ''Stammstrecke'' route. It is named after the ''Spittelmarkt'' square, former site of the Saint Gertrude hospital established about 1400. The name ''Spittelmarkt'' is formed from a contraction of "hospital" (as also in Spitalfields, London) and the German word for "market". The station, designed by Alfred Grenander, was lavishly erected right beneath the banks of the Spree river, with daylight windows above the water's surface. Mohrenstraße is a Berlin U-Bahn station on line U2, located in the district of Mitte. The station is located at the western end of the eponymous Mohrenstraße, which runs in an east-west direction. Its western entrance opens up to the north-south crossing Wilhelmstraße and is located opposite the junction with Voßstraße. The east entrance is located at Glinkastraße.
