Alfred Carter (cricketer)
Alfred Snowden Carter (1 March 1869 – 7 June 1920) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Essendon Football Club in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) from 1888 to 1892, and an Australian cricketer, who played two first-class cricket matches for Victoria between 1899 and 1900. He also played cricket for the East Melbourne Cricket Club, scoring more than 9,800 runs for the team. Early life The youngest son of the Melbourne surgeon-dentist, Ernest Carter (1829-1889), and Harriet Elizabeth Carter (1828-1914), née Gilks, Alfred Snowden Carter and his twin sister, Ethel, were born at Booroondara, Victoria on 1 March 1869. Howard Carter (Pentecostal Pioneer)
Alfred Howard Carter (3 January 1891 – 22 January 1971), better known as Howard Carter, was a pioneer in the Pentecostal Christian faith. The Crown Mission Carter was born in Birmingham. He took over England's first Pentecostal Bible School. In 1913 an organization called the Crown Mission began in the city, and shortly afterwards Carter became the leader of this group. By 1916 he became involved in a second Pentecostal work, and had to quit his regular work to maintain leadership of the two churches. In prison In World War I, Carter was imprisoned in Wormwood Scrubs as a conscientious objector, and then spent time in Princetown Work Centre in the former Dartmoor Prison. While in prison he received the revelation of the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit. These teachings, based on the text of 1 Corinthians 12:8-10, are still used today as the primary teaching on the gifts of the Spirit within all major Pentecostal Christian belief systems. Alfred Wellington Carter (April 27, 1867 – April 27, 1949) was a lawyer and judge in the Republic of Hawaii and the Territory of Hawaii who managed the Parker Ranch. Early life His grandfather Joseph Oliver Carter (1802–1850) was a merchant ship captain. His father was Samuel Morrill Carter (1838–1893) and mother was Harriet Layman Hempstead (1836–1898). Alfred Wellington Carter was born April 22, 1862, and named for an uncle Alfred Wellington Carter (1841–1890). Another uncle Henry A. P. Carter (1837–1891) had been a cabinet minister and diplomat for the Kingdom of Hawaii. His uncle Joseph O. Carter was Liliʻuokalani's legal advisor and served on her Privy Council of State. Since many of his relatives were also named Alfred, he went by his initials "A. W." Career Carter attended Punahou School and became an officer in the Honolulu Rifles militia in July 1887. Biography The son of David and Martha Carter, Alfred Carter was born near Calgary and enlisted in December 1915 in Ontario, where he had been a university student. In 1916 he joined the Royal Naval Air Service and attended flight school in Florida.
