Alfred C. Lockwood
Alfred C. Lockwood (July 20, 1875 – October 29, 1951) was an American jurist and politician. Before his election to the Arizona Supreme Court, he served as a judge for the Superior Court of Cochise County. Lockwood was born in Ottawa, Illinois. His father, W. C. Lockwood, was a native of Ohio, but for many years practiced law in Illinois, and became a prominent attorneys of that state. Lockwood's mother, Elizabeth Peers Lockwood, was also native of Illinois, and a descendant of Jonathan Edwards and Cotton Mather. Lockwood graduated from high school in Collinsville, Illinois, in 1891. He moved to Arizona in 1893 and for five years was employed as a teacher at the seminal school in Cave Creek. Lockwood was admitted to the Arizona Bar in 1902. Arizona Supreme Court
The Arizona Supreme Court is the state supreme court of the U.S. state of Arizona. Sitting in the Supreme Court building in downtown Phoenix, the court consists of a chief justice, a vice chief justice, and five associate justices. Each justice is appointed by the governor of Arizona from a list recommended by a bipartisan commission. Justices stand for retention in an election two years after their appointment and then every six years. They must retire at age 70. Court history The court started in 1912 with three justices. Alfred Franklin, Donald L. Cunningham, and Henry D. Ross took office on February 14, 1912. In 1949, the Court expanded from three to five justices. The ''Arizona Daily Star'' is an American daily newspaper based in Tucson, Arizona, and owned by Lee Enterprises. It serves Tucson and surrounding districts of Southern Arizona in the United States. History 1877–1925 L. C. Hughes was the Arizona Territory governor and founder of the ''Arizona Star'', in 1877. The precursor to the Arizona Daily Star was The Bulletin, the first daily newspaper published in Tucson. It was started March 1, 1877 by L.C. Hughes and Charles Tully, later publishers of The Star. Douglas is a city in Cochise County, Arizona, United States, that lies in the north-west to south-east running Sulphur Springs Valley.
