Alfie (band)
Alfie were an English indie rock band, formed in 1998 in Manchester. The band were composed of singer Lee Gorton, guitarist-vocalist Ian Smith, drummer Sean Kelly, bassist Sam Morris and cellist-guitarist Matt McGeever. Gorton admitted that the name Alfie "was just plucked out of the air", but with it being one of the first bands alphabetically had helped them as, for example, when the band "played All Tomorrow's Parties, it looked like we were headlining". The band released four studio albums before disbanding in 2005. The band were named after a painting made by the Drop City art community in Colorado in the late 1960s. Mazes were an English indie rock musical ensemble, band, formed in Manchester in 2009. The band consisted of Jack Cooper (English musician), Jack Cooper on vocals and guitar, Conan Roberts on bass and Neil Robinson on drums. History Mazes was initially a recording project for Blackpool-born singer-songwriter Jack Cooper, following the split of The Beep Seals which he co-fronted with former Alfie (band), Alfie guitarist Ian Smith (and originated as a live backing band for Jim Noir). He recruited Jay Sikora and Jarin Tabata in 2009 to tour. The band released two 7" singles with Brighton's Sex Is Disgusting Records. Jack Oliver Cooper (born February 1980) is an English singer, composer and guitarist. Currently a member of Modern Nature, Cooper was previously a member of The Beep Seals, Mazes and Ultimate Painting. Biography Cooper was born in Blackpool, and re-located to Manchester in the early 2000s. In 2003, he signed to Twisted Nerve Records and released the song ''Hope I Don't Cry'' on a 7" single with 2 other artists which was issued as part of the label's mail order single subscription service. In 2004, Cooper released his debut EP in the form of ''Turn The Light Off''. My Dad Recordings was the home of local musician Jim Noir, who helped Cooper record demos with his backing band for a possible debut album.
