Alfabeta
''alfabeta'' was a monthly cultural and literary magazine published between 1979 and 1988 in Milan, Italy. The magazine was the cultural landmark in the country during its existence. History and profile ''alfabeta'' was established in Milan by Nanni Balestrini in May 1979. It was originally published by Multhipla and then Intrapresa. The editorial board included Maria Corti, Umberto Eco, Francesco Leonetti, Antonio Porta, Pier Aldo Rovatti and Paolo Volponi. ''alfabeta'' produced in-depth articles about culture, philosophy and politics along with previews and reviews of books, contemporary art exhibitions, theatre shows and cinema. Poet Gian Mario Villalta started his career as a contributor to the magazine in 1986. ''alfabeta'' ceased publication in 1988 and the last issue appeared in December that year. Nanni Balestrini
Nanni Balestrini (2 July 1935 – 19 May 2019) was an Italian experimental poet, author and visual artist of the Neoavanguardia movement. Context Nanni Balestrini is associated with the Italian writers' movement Neoavanguardia. He wrote for the magazine '' Il Verri'', founded and co-directed the now-defunct '' Alfabeta'' and was one of the Italian writers published in the anthology '' I Novissimi'' (1961). Balestrini was born in Milan. During the 1960s, as the group was growing and becoming the Gruppo 63, Balestrini was the editor of their publications. From 1962 to 1972, he was working for Feltrinelli, cooperating with the publishers and editing some issues of the ''Cooperativa Scrittori''. In 1968, Balestrini was co-founder of the Potere Operaio political group and in 1976 was an important supporter of the Autonomia Operaia. Maria Corti
Maria Corti (7 September 1915 – 22 February 2002) was an Italian philologist, literary critic, and novelist. Considered one of the leading literary scholars of post-World War II Italy, she was awarded numerous prizes including the Premio Campiello for the entire body of her work. Her works of fiction were informed by her literary scholarship but also had a distinctly autobiographical vein, particularly her ''Voci del nord-est'' (1986) and ''II canto delle sirene'' (1989). Francesco Leonetti
Francesco Leonetti (27 January 1924 – 17 December 2017) was an Italian poet, novelist, art critic, teacher and political activist. Biography Leonetti was born in Cosenza in Calabria. In 1955 he moved to Bologna to study philosophy. There he met Pier Paolo Pasolini and Roberto Roversi, and together they co-founded the magazine ''Officina''. In the 1960s he co-founded with Elio Vittorini and Italo Calvino the literary magazine ''Il Menabò''. In 1963 he joined the Neoavanguardia avant-garde Italian literary movement. Leonetti collaborated with Pasolini again in 1964, playing the part of Herod Antipas in '' The Gospel According to St. Matthew''. He also provided the voice of the sparrow in '' The Hawks and the Sparrows'' (1966) and played the part of the servant Laio in the 1967 film ''Oedipus Rex''.
