Alf Hellevik
Alf Hellevik (28 June 1909 – 8 November 2001) was a Norwegian philologist. He was born in Fjaler. He graduated as cand.philol. from the University of Oslo in 1938. He was the principal editor of the multi-volume dictionary '' Norsk Ordbok'' from 1948 to 1978. He lectured at the University of Oslo from 1972 until his retirement in 1977. He edited several editions of ''Nynorsk Ordliste''. From 1952 to 1970 he was a member of ''Norsk Språknemnd'', and a member of the Norwegian Language Council from 1972 to 1988. He resided at Hosle during his working career, but later moved back to Sunnfjord. He died in November 2001 in Askvoll. Fjaler
Fjaler is a municipality in the county of Vestland, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Sunnfjord. The administrative centre is the village of Dale. Other places in Fjaler include Espedal, Flekke, Folkestad, Guddal, and Hellevika. Fjaler was the birthplace of famous Norwegian poet Jakob Sande. The UWC Red Cross Nordic at Haugland, one of the eighteen United World Colleges of the world is also located here, as well as the Nordic Art Centre at Dalsåsen. There is a bridge connecting Dale to Eikenes in Askvoll municipality, and buses depart from Dale to Førde, Rysjedalsvika, Hyllestad, and the western part of Fjaler. is a municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Sunnfjord. The administrative centre is the village of Askvoll. Other villages in the municipality include Holmedal, Kvammen, and Stongfjorden. (, literally "Spew (Vomit) Norwegian Murder List") is a derogatory term meant to disparage Nynorsk, one of the two official standards of written Norwegian. It is a pun on , the title of the "New Norwegian Word List", a Nynorsk dictionary. Background was first published in 1938; the eleventh edition came in 2012. Learning to write both of the written standards of Norwegian, Nynorsk and Bokmål, is compulsory in Norwegian schools. Among student users of Bokmål in some areas, mockery of Nynorsk became widespread toward the end of the 20th century. For example they would use a pen to change the cover title of to "". Sunnfjord
Sunnfjord ( en, the southern fjord - in contrast to Nordfjord) is a traditional district in Western Norway located in Vestland county. It includes the municipalities of Askvoll, Fjaler, the southernmost parts of Kinn, Sunnfjord, and the southernmost parts of Bremanger. It covers an area of about and has a population (2016) of 43,324–about 8% of the population of Vestland county.
