Alf Egan
Alfred George Egan (3 April 1910 – 21 January 1962) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Carlton and North Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of Edward Egan, and Margaret Egan, née Farrell, Alfred George Egan was born into the Gunditjmara indigenous community at Wallacedale, near Condah, in Western Victoria, on 3 April 1910. Although his brother, Allan Edmund Egan (1914–1951), was cleared from "Melbourne Boys" to the North Melbourne Seconds in 1937, he did not play any senior VFL football. He married Gweneth May Cavenagh in 1950. Football Egan was the first Indigenous Australian to play for Carlton and also the first to play with North Melbourne. John Joseph Patrick Green (29 September 1905 – 28 May 1960) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton and Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of John Joseph Green (1869-1920), and Mary Magdalene Green (c.1862-c.1961), née Hall, John Joseph Patrick Green was born in Brunswick, Victoria on 29 September 1905. He was the older brother of the Carlton footballer, Bob Green, and both brothers played together (Jack on the half-forward flank, and Bob on the wing) for Victoria, against South Australia on 3 August 1935. He married Norma Gwendolyn Gabell (1910-1970) on 26 September 1934. They had two children. In Australian rules football, the centre half-forward is a position on the half-forward line of a football field. The directly opposing player is a centre half-back. Royce Hart of the Richmond Football Club and Wayne Carey of the North Melbourne and Adelaide football clubs are often considered to be two of the greatest centre half-forwards of all time. Burnley is an inner-city suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 4 km east of the Melbourne central business district, located within the City of Yarra local government area. Burnley recorded a population of 794 at the 2021 census. It has historically been part of the larger Richmond area due to its proximity and small size.
